The king of stealth-action is officially back. Konami has confirmed that the Metal Gear franchise has surpassed a massive milestone, shipping over 65.5 million units worldwide as of December 2025. Much of this momentum is attributed to the Snake Eater remake, confirming that the series remains a powerhouse in the modern gaming landscape. According to Konami’s latest corporate update, the franchise’s leap in sales was fueled by the blockbuster launch of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater on August 28, 2025. The publisher noted that the remake smashed through the one-million-copy mark in shipments and digital sales shortly after release, matching the pace of the series' historical heavyweights.
This success has effectively silenced concerns regarding the franchise's viability without original creator Hideo Kojima, firmly re-establishing Metal Gear as a cornerstone of Konami's portfolio. The remake itself was a critical darling, celebrated for its "nostalgia done right" approach. It retained the original 2004 story and jungle survival mechanics while overhauling the experience with modern visuals, real-time damage mechanics, and third-person gunplay.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Beyond Snake: A Company-Wide Upswing
While console sales on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S drove the majority of the explosion, the game also found a dedicated audience on PC. As Snake is grabbing the headlines, the new data reveals a company-wide upswing for Konami. The report highlighted that the eFootball franchise (formerly PES) has reached a staggering 950 million sales since its inception in 1995.
The Pawafuru Puroyakyu (Power Pros) series has also performed admirably, surpassing 26.3 million units globally, while the Momotaro Dentetsu series sits at 19.9 million. Elsewhere in the lineup, the Yu-Gi-Oh! digital games have accumulated 32.5 million sales, with the mobile hit Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links boasting over 150 million downloads since 2016. Meanwhile, the horror classic Silent Hill has also seen steady growth, crossing the 14 million mark.
Financially, these numbers paint a rosy picture for the publisher; Konami reported a 16.3% increase in income from its digital entertainment sector and a 13.6% rise in total revenue compared to the previous year. Looking ahead, Konami is signaling a pivot toward emerging technologies to maintain this momentum. In sections of the report aimed at investors, the company described itself as a "leading company in esports" and outlined plans to embrace modern challenges.
The publisher stated it will continue to utilize innovations such as artificial intelligence (AI), 5G/6G communications, cloud technology, and VR/AR. The report even mentioned exploring Web3 and NFT technologies, suggesting the company is looking to diversify how fans interact with its intellectual properties. With Metal Gear outpacing its siblings, fans are left with the distinct impression that this is just the beginning of the series' revival.
