The Japanese video game company Nintendo Co., Ltd. nearly doubled its net sales in the first nine months of its 2025/26 fiscal year. The growth was driven by strong demand for the Nintendo Switch 2, which has sold 17.37M units worldwide since its June 2025 launch.
For the nine months ending Dec 31, 2025, Nintendo reported net sales of ¥1.9 trillion ($12.3 billion USD), up 99.3% year-on-year (YoY). Operating profit rose 21.3% to ¥300.4B ($1.9B), ordinary profit increased 39.4% to ¥445.8B ($2.9B), and net profit climbed 51.3% to ¥358.8B ($2.3B), according to its fiscal results released Feb 3, 2026.
The console sold 7.01M units in the three months ending Dec 31, 2025, marking its strongest quarter so far and surpassing the 5.82M units sold during its launch quarter. Since debuting on June 5, 2025, the system has outpaced the original Switch, which sold 14.86M units in the comparable nine-month period following its 2017 release.
Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Drive Revenue and Software Momentum
Hardware sales were mainly supported by bundles featuring Mario Kart World and Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Mario Kart World has sold 14.03M units to date, while Pokémon Legends: Z-A has reached 8.41M units.
Other notable sellers include Donkey Kong Bananza at 4.25M units and Kirby Air Riders at 1.76M. Cumulative Switch 2 software sales stand at 37.93M units, with 17.31M sold during the December 2025 quarter. Physical copies accounted for 58.7% of Nintendo’s third quarter (Q3) game sales.
Meanwhile, sales of the original Nintendo Switch declined 66% year-on-year to 3.25M units. Lifetime sales, however, reached 155.37M, making it Nintendo’s best-selling console.
The platform recorded 129M annual playing users in 2025, slightly down from 130M in 2024. Digital sales increased 14.7% to ¥282B ($1.8B) and accounted for 50.4% of total software sales, while intellectual property (IP)-related revenue declined 10.1% year-on-year, reflecting higher contributions from The Super Mario Bros. Movie in the prior period.

Nintendo pointed to its established Switch user base helped ease the transition to the new system. The company expects upcoming releases, including Pokémon Pokopia, Mario Tennis Fever, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, to help maintain momentum.
Overall, the results point to a measured generational transition, with early Switch 2 adoption reshaping Nintendo’s revenue mix. The company enters its next hardware cycle with financial momentum and a large, active user base.
