YG HQ Hit by Vandalism Attempt Amid BLACKPINK Event Backlash

Last-minute announcement and retroactive Weverse membership cutoffs trigger massive fan outcry ahead of BLACKPINK’s 10-year milestone celebration event.

Highlights

  • A limited-capacity BLACKPINK event drew intense fan criticism as a woman attempted to vandalize the YG office, generating widespread security concerns.
  • The attendance rules for the event fueled complaints over fan access while questioning the group’s engagement strategy.
  • The episode emphasizes operational challenges under BLACKPINK’s multi-agency management structure.

YG Entertainment Inc. is facing public scrutiny and physical security breaches after it restricted BLACKPINK’s 10th-anniversary celebration in Seoul to just 40 attendees. Fans have criticized YG Entertainment over this cap, arguing the company provided only two days' notice while informing the event's exact venue and timing.

Amidst this, Seoul Mapo Police arrested a woman in her 20s Thursday night (August 6, 2026) after she attempted to smash the front glass door of YG Entertainment’s headquarters with a golf club. The intention of the accused is not yet officially confirmed by designated authorities. However, the incident occurred hours after YG announced the August 8 BLACKPINK event via fan platform Weverse, leading people to speculate if she was an angry fan responding to the management in rage.

Why Are Fans Angry Over the Weverse Cutoff?

It is worth noting that the 40-person cap is not the only issue. The announcement, notably, limited the spots to only those who held an active paid Weverse membership purchased before July 31. Fans voiced frustration over this retroactive cutoff, as many had discontinued the platform’s premium service, noting the stagnant group activity with zero live broadcasts being hosted since 2024.

Additionally, fans emphasized another structural contradiction. They said that YG maintained open membership enrollment during ticket presales for BLACKPINK’s world tour but applied a strict cutoff for the anniversary gathering. Several anniversary items in collaboration with MU:DS were also revealed as special 10th-anniversary merchandise. Meanwhile, many fans reportedly criticized the move by stating that the management prioritized product monetization over accessible fan engagement.

BLACKPINK Agencies Clarify Member Attendance

Tensions grew further when YG’s initial notice stated that member attendance would rely on their individual availability. Reports of Rosé being in Los Angeles and Lisa being abroad as well prompted speculation that the full group would not be able to assemble for the anniversary celebration.

However, The Black Label, which manages Rosé’s solo ventures, confirmed her attendance. The company said that the singer reportedly is coordinating her schedule accordingly to align with the August 8 occasion. Simultaneously, YG Entertainment has also reportedly confirmed all members’ presence at the event while addressing online rumors regarding a fragmented lineup.

The scheduling confusion showcases the operational reality of BLACKPINK’s 2023 contract restructuring. Although all four members renewed group contracts with YG, each established or went into different management entities for solo endeavors.

Group recording output had similarly reduced under this split management model. Nevertheless, in February 2026, BLACKPINK released its third EP, Deadline, ending a three-year group recording hiatus. The album entered at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, below the peak of their 2022 album Born Pink, which topped both the U.S. Billboard 200 and the U.K. Official Albums Chart.

BLACKPINK Marks its 10th Year with 1st Fan Event Since 2019

The latest gathering marks BLACKPINK’s first domestic fan event in South Korea since July 2025, in which the group had a tour stop in Goyang. Unlike industry peers like TWICE or Red Velvet, who host large-scale domestic fan meetings quite often, BLACKPINK has reportedly not staged a dedicated fan meeting since 2019.

The anniversary event execution marks a massive retreat. For its eighth anniversary in 2024, BLACKPINK conducted a global livestream and a red-carpet show for its concert film. However, for the ninth year, YG had hosted no major activities for the group, leaving this 40-seat event as the key physical gathering celebration for its 10-year landmark.
