After years of bitter courtroom standoffs and regulatory red tape, Epic Games’ battle royale juggernaut has finally come home to the iPhone, and mobile players were hungrier for it than anyone realized. Following its global return to Apple’s App Store on May 19, 2026, Fortnite officially crossed the 1M daily download mark for the first time in its history. The game racked up an estimated 11.5M installs worldwide during its comeback month, proving that an extended exile only supercharged player demand.

Data tracked by market intelligence firm AppMagic illustrates a breathtaking velocity. When the game originally launched on mobile back on March 18, 2018, it set a daily download record of 764,000, a threshold the game never managed to cross again during its initial run. This modern re-release destroyed that old ceiling. Daily installs skyrocketed to an absolute lifetime App Store peak of over 1.2M on May 30, holding strong above the 1M mark again on May 31 before settling back into the six-figure range in June. 

After an opening week that immediately became the title's fourth-best ever on iOS, its second week nearly doubled the pace, capturing just shy of 5M new installs between May 26 and June 1. The sheer momentum carried forward, delivering another 2.5M downloads in week three and 1.1M in week four, as per Pocketgamer.biz.

Saudi Arabia & Mexico Lead Global Player Demand

Surprisingly, the engine driving this massive reinstall wave wasn't the United States. International gaming communities carried the weight of the comeback, led decisively by Saudi Arabia. The region emerged as the game's single biggest catalyst, generating nearly 2.9M downloads to claim 25% of the global volume. 

Mexico ranked second with almost 2.3M installs, capturing 20% of the footprint, while the United Kingdom drove 733,000 downloads to account for 6%. As Pocketgamer.biz reported, the United States placed fourth overall with 629,000 installs, a softer standing easily explained by the fact that American iPhone users had already regained limited access to the game back in 2025.

Getting players back onto the island was only half the battle; Epic Games also successfully reopened a vital financial pipeline. Fortnite generated an estimated $3.9 million USD in App Store player spending throughout its comeback month. American gamers opened their wallets the widest, contributing $2.6M to that total, followed by dedicated player bases in Japan at $198,000 and Mexico at $179,000. 

Overall daily spending hit a post-return high of $208,000 on June 12, marking a massive jump from the $79,000 pulled on launch day. Because this spending peak arrived nearly two weeks after the download peak, it signaled that returning players weren't just checking the game out for nostalgia; they were sticking around to buy skins.

This financial spike was heavily fueled by a June 12 in-game shop update that introduced Pomni and Jax from the hit web series The Amazing Digital Circus. The viral crossover kept Epic’s hot streak of 2026 pop-culture collaborations alive, hot on the heels of an extremely popular crossover with HoYoverse’s Honkai: Star Rail earlier in the year.

While the relaunch stands as a definitive triumph for Epic Games, the global reunion party remains slightly incomplete. The game is still officially blocked on the App Store in Australia as Epic continues to contest local developer terms in court. For the rest of the world's mobile gamers, the long drought is officially over.
