Highlights

  • Hazelight has surpassed 50M copies sold across It Takes Two, A Way Out, and Split Fiction.
  • It Takes Two leads with 30M sales, while Split Fiction reached 7M within its first year.
  • SteamDB ratings above 94% and strong player peaks indicate sustained co-op engagement.

Hazelight Studios has sold more than 50 million copies of It Takes Two, A Way Out, and Split Fiction. The studio confirmed the figure publicly, noting continued player support while teasing a fourth project in development.

It Takes Two leads the sales distribution with approximately 30M copies, followed by A Way Out with 13M and Split Fiction with 7M. While Split Fiction is the newest release, its smaller share reflects its shorter time on the market rather than weaker performance.

Likewise, A Way Out accumulated its total over eight years, whereas Split Fiction reached 7M within about a year.

Acknowledging the achievement, the studio stated, “Your love and support keeps us going and we can't wait to show you our fourth game.”

Steam Engagement and Co-Op Focus Underpin Hazelight’s 50M Milestone

SteamDB data highlights sustained engagement across Hazelight’s catalog.

It Takes Two, released in March 2021, holds a 94.35% rating from roughly 257K reviews and has recorded 71,039 as its all-time peak. Meanwhile, Split Fiction, released March 2025, shows a 95.74% rating across about 117K reviews and has reached an all-time peak of 259,003.

These figures reflect continued co-op interest and long-tail player activity, contrasting with some recent RPG launches that peak early and decline. For example, Dragon’s Dogma 2 reached an all-time Steam peak of 228,585 concurrent players but later dropped to roughly 1.5K average players in recent months, highlighting a sharper post-launch falloff.

Hazelight’s consistent focus on cooperative gameplay across split-screen, local, and online co-op has contributed to durable sales momentum. It Takes Two also benefited from awards recognition, including Game of the Year (GOTY) in 2021, further extending its life cycle. The milestone excludes Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, which predates Hazelight’s formation.

Altogether, sustained player engagement and strong long-tail performance helped the studio reach the milestone.
