Nintendo Switch Drives Third-Party Games Revenue Surge
Nintendo Switch 2 Drove $1B Revenue Surge for Third-Party Titles
Ampere Analysis data shows Switch 2's launch pushed third-party software revenue up 76% YoY.
Highlights
- Third-party sales on Nintendo consoles hit $2.3B in 2025, driven largely by Switch 2 launch and demand.
- Revenue surged due to an 81% rise in average selling prices, even as overall unit sales declined.
- Major publishers like EA and Warner Bros. are prioritizing Switch 2, leveraging its growing install base and profitability.
Third-party game sales across Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles reached $2.3 billion USD between Q2 and Q4 2025, emphasizing a 76% year-on-year (YoY) increase. According to a March 31 report from UK-based Ampere Analysis, the third-party sales increased by $1B in comparison to $1.3B in 2024, due to the Switch 2 release, which is becoming preferred for publishers.
The revenue jump was not driven by more units sold; Switch console sales rather fell 2.5% over the same period of time. Ampere Analysis attributed the revenue growth to a significant increase in average selling prices (ASPs), which rose 81% YoY in the recorded period.
The report has attributed much of the success to the Switch 2 release. Publishers “are seeing stronger sales performance following the launch of the Switch 2.”
Why Publishers are Prioritizing Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo consoles are generally targeted for Nintendo-exclusive titles such as Mario, Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, and the like. However, with recent technical precision on Nintendo Switch 2, it is becoming sought after for multi-platform releases.
Publishers like Warner Bros. Games, Electronic Arts, and Bandai are making more money while selling fewer copies, a dynamic that reflects the industry-wide push toward higher software pricing. Reportedly, each of these companies earned over $100M due to the third-party sale surge on Switch 2.
According to the report, Warner Bros. Games topped the third-party sales value ranking from June to December 2025, with strong performances of Hogwarts Legacy and its LEGO portfolio.
Additionally, Nintendo Switch consoles offer a larger audience for publishers, with Nintendo Switch selling over 155M units worldwide and Switch 2 becoming its fastest-selling console. On the other hand, Ampere noted that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series’ “combined active installed base” is decreasing in comparison to previous generations.
The Switch 2’s reported revenue boost due to third-party sales signals a stronger demand for Nintendo consoles in the ongoing competition for publisher support. However, an Ampere Analysis senior analyst, Katie Holt, emphasized that “there is no significant evidence yet of a dramatic shift in the commercial balance between Nintendo’s own releases and those from other publishers on the Switch 2.”
