- The viral Roblox hit Grow A Garden is being made into a movie.

- The game is a massive success, recently breaking Fortnite's peak player record.
The production company behind the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise is turning its attention to a new, massive gaming phenomenon. Story Kitchen, a media company specializing in adapting video games, has announced it is developing a feature film based on the viral Roblox hit, Grow A Garden. The team is collaborating closely with Splitting Point Studios, the creative minds behind the game, to bring the simulator to the big screen.
Grow A Garden has become one of the most explosive successes in gaming since its launch in March 2025. The game has gathered an incredible 33 billion plays on the Roblox platform. In August 2025, it shattered records by reaching 22.3 million concurrent players.
To put that in perspective, that figure surpassed the all-time peak concurrent player count for Fortnite, which topped out at 15.3 million. At one point this summer, Grow A Garden accounted for more than two-thirds of the roughly 30 million players logged into Roblox at the time.
For those unfamiliar, the game allows players to cultivate their own thriving gardens, trade crops with others, decorate their worlds, and collaborate in special seasonal events. It’s this focus on community and creativity that Story Kitchen plans to capture.
What to Expect From the Grow A Garden Movie
"Grow a Garden is exactly the kind of imaginative, heartfelt world we love to adapt,” said Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg, calling it "an uplifting story-world rooted in play, creativity, and community.”
While the game itself is a sandbox simulator without a linear plot, the film adaptation is being crafted as an uplifting story for all ages. Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but the film is set to invite audiences into a "whimsical, emotional, and unexpectedly epic story".
The narrative will reportedly focus on themes of growth, friendship, and the magic that happens when you nurture something from the ground up, all while embodying the game's community-driven DNA.
The film is set to be led by Story Kitchen’s co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson. Johnson is best known as a producer on the highly successful Sonic the Hedgehog movies. They are joined by producer Jeremy Bolt of JB Pictures, with John Gaudiosi and John Benyamine of Moonrock serving as co-producers alongside Story Kitchen’s Elena Sandoval.
The project is also being produced in association with Think Influence, which represents the game's creators. This project marks another significant move for Roblox as it expands its gaming properties into multimedia, following a similar movie project already in development for the Roblox game Jailbreak.
Story Kitchen, founded in 2022, is quickly becoming the go-to for game adaptations, with a packed slate that includes projects for Tomb Raider, Life Is Strange, Sifu, It Takes Two, and classic SEGA titles like Streets of Rage and Shinobi. The Grow A Garden film is currently in early development.
