Amazon has greenlit a "Life Is Strange" live-action series for Prime Video.
Charlie Covell will showrun, with producers from "Barbie" and "Sonic" attached.
The show adapts the 2015 time-rewind game, expanding Amazon's gaming franchises.
Amazon MGM Studios has greenlit a live-action television adaptation of the popular video game "Life Is Strange" for its Prime Video streaming service, ending nearly a decade of stalled development for the project.
Charlie Covell, the creator behind Netflix's "Kaos" and writer of the critically acclaimed series "The End of the F***ing World," will serve as writer and showrunner for the adaptation.
The production brings together LuckyChap Entertainment, the company behind "Barbie" and "Saltburn," with Story Kitchen, a production house specializing in video game adaptations led by Dmitri M. Johnson, who produced the "Sonic the Hedgehog" films. Square Enix, the game's publisher, will also serve as a producer.
The project represents a fresh start for the adaptation, which was previously announced by Legendary Television and later attached to Hulu in 2017 before stalling in development.
Amazon Bets Big on Gaming Franchises
"It's a huge honor to be adapting 'Life Is Strange,'" Covell said in a statement. "I'm a massive fan of the game and I'm thrilled to be working with the brilliant teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can't wait to share Max and Chloe's story with fellow players and new audiences alike."
The series is based on the 2015 episodic adventure game developed by Dontnod Entertainment, which follows Max Caulfield, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time. The story centers on her efforts to save her childhood friend Chloe while uncovering dark secrets in the fictional town of Arcadia Bay.
The original game spawned a franchise that has continued under developer Deck Nine, with subsequent titles including "Life Is Strange: True Colors" and the upcoming "Life Is Strange: Double Exposure."
"The series is in the wonderful hands of Charlie Covell, who has crafted a deeply captivating story based on the iconic video game," said Nick Pepper, head of U.S. SVOD television at Amazon MGM Studios.
The greenlight continues Amazon's expansion into video game properties, following the success of its "Fallout" series and ahead of its planned "God of War" adaptation.
No casting announcements or release timeline have been disclosed for the series.
