Industry Split Over Big Bang's Comeback Album Length

K-pop stargroup Big Bang is making a high-stakes return to the global stage this August with a new tour to anchor their landmark 20th anniversary. According to an exclusive report by The Korea Herald, industry insiders reveal the group may opt to release a physical single featuring two to three new tracks, paving the way for their first world tour in nine years.

Big Bang Targets August 19 for New Music Release?

While global audiences anticipate a full-length LP, The Korea Herald notes that the operational timeline makes shorter formats, the only realistic choice. The group’s spring schedule was packed as Big Bang performed at Coachella in April, followed immediately by Taeyang’s fourth solo album the next month. And with the world tour set to launch in August, the window to execute a larger studio project is potentially very difficult, however, these plans remain fluid and mostly dependent on the artists' final schedules.

The momentum, however, has already begun appearing into the public eye. On May 14, during Epik High’s YouTube show Epikase, G-Dragon openly hinted at the August timeline. On the same show, Taeyang confirmed the group is trying to wrap up the process as soon as possible with only editing being taking place at the moment. According to The Korea Herald, the new album drop date is expected to be around August 19, the group’s debut date.

If confirmed, the project will mark Big Bang's first collective musical venture since the digital single Still Life in April 2022. Nevertheless, when asked further about the joint project, the group’s agency YG Entertainment declined to comment, as noted by The Korea Herald. Additionally, Galaxy Corporation, the agency currently managing G-Dragon’s solo activities, said they are not completely aware of any kind of specific release frameworks.

For a group that originally reshaped the global architecture of K-pop, their potential album release in August is less about just new music and more about reclaiming their legacy.
