Sony Confirms KPop Demon Hunters Sequel and Multi-Platform Strategy
According to Variety, Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Ravi Ahuja discussed KPop Demon Hunters during the BofA Securities 2026 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference in New York. He said the project was being developed in 2021 and that Netflix proved to be the right platform as the film’s audience grew over time.
Ahuja also confirmed that Sony Pictures Entertainment is working on a sequel for Netflix. He pointed to the ability to develop the property across different platforms and audiences as part of Sony’s broader approach to building franchises.
“By being platform agnostic and content-focused, we’re able to build that franchise by hitting people in different places,” Ahuja said. He also noted this approach allows the company to benefit from media fragmentation while developing content assets and franchises.
From Netflix to Vans and also a lot of other collaborations, KPop Demon Hunters is showing how a streaming hit can evolve into a franchise with value across entertainment and consumer products.
