The Promised Neverland is returning to Weekly Shonen Jump six years after its main serialization ended.
The manga's official account said Sunday that a special side-story one-shot will appear in Issue 39 of the magazine, which goes on sale in Japan on Aug. 24. The announcement also included the third in a series of 10th-anniversary illustrations newly drawn by artist Posuka Demizu.
Shueisha first revealed plans for the new chapter in April as part of five projects celebrating a decade since The Promised Neverland began serialization. The anniversary program also includes a stage musical, full-color digital editions of the manga and merchandise initiatives.
The new chapter will mark another return to the series for writer Kaiu Shirai and Demizu, who created the original manga.
The Promised Neverland Marks 10 Years
Written by Shirai and illustrated by Demizu, The Promised Neverland began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on Aug. 1, 2016, and concluded in June 2020 after 181 chapters collected across 20 volumes.
The psychological thriller follows Emma, Norman, Ray and other children at Grace Field House, an apparently idyllic orphanage whose residents discover they are being raised as food for demons.
The series became one of Weekly Shonen Jump's major releases of the late 2010s and subsequently expanded into a multimedia franchise spanning anime, novels, games and a Japanese live-action film.
More than 42 million copies of the manga are in circulation worldwide. The Promised Neverland also won the 63rd Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2018.
The CloverWorks anime adaptation ran for two seasons. While its first season was well received, the second departed substantially from the manga, including omitting the Goldy Pond storyline, and drew criticism over its compressed adaptation of the remaining material.
Shueisha is also marking the anniversary by making the first 10 volumes of The Promised Neverland available to read free on Shonen Jump+ and Zebrack through Aug. 31.
An English-language release for the new one-shot hasn't been announced as of Aug. 10.
