Riot Games’ The League of Legends World Championship 2027 (Worlds 2027) may take place from Oct 15 to Nov 14, 2027, in South Korea, according to preliminary details disclosed by the Korea e-Sports Association (KeSPA). The details surfaced after the association announced the bidding process for hosting the offline Knockout Stage across the country.
The tournament is reported to feature a prize pool of $5 million USD, and an additional revenue share from skins. KeSPA’s notice on March 9 also confirmed that a total of 18 regional teams are expected to compete, ranging across Korea, China, Europe, both Americas, and the Pacific.
Every region will provide three tickets, except for South America, which will issue one. The teams will be selected based on regional teams’ performance in regional leagues such as LCK, LPL, LEC, and LCS. The remaining two teams will be selected from the LoL Mid-Season Invitational.
KeSPA has emphasized that the tentative details remain subject to change as per Riot Games’ future announcement. Worlds currently has 14 sponsors, including long-time partners like HyperX, RedBull, Globant, and Oppo. There might also be changes in the current sponsors’ list.
Tentative Format of Worlds 2027
Worlds generally follows a three-staged progression path to the finals, consisting of Play-In, Swiss Stage, and Knockout Stage. Both the Play-In and the Swiss Stage work as seeding ground for the knockouts, which feature quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
As per KeSPA’s notice, Worlds 2027 quarterfinals and semifinals are expected to run from Nov 2-7, with the top eight teams advancing from the Swiss Stage. The grand final is tentatively scheduled for Nov 14, 2027.
While Riot Games has yet to formally confirm the Worlds 2027 schedule or host cities, KeSPA’s early disclosure indicates that preparations for the event are already underway at both the municipal and ecosystem level.
