Google Play and NODWIN Gaming have launched ‘Google Play Arena,’ a free mobile esports championship designed to connect grassroots players with established competitive clubs in India. Announced on Oct. 23, 2026, the tournament features six games and will conclude with a two-day Grand Finale in Mumbai in December 2026.

Players aged 18 and above can enter online qualifiers for free, with top performers eligible to earn places in professional club line-ups. The competition has no pay-to-play requirements, although the organizers have not disclosed a prize pool.

Which Games and Clubs Are Competing in Google Play Arena?

The championship spans mobile shooters, strategy games, sports simulations, and chess. Its lineup includes:

  • Games: Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), Free Fire MAX, Real Cricket, Moba Legends: 5v5!, Chess.com, and EA SPORTS FC Mobile.
  • Clubs: GodLike, S8UL, Revenant XSpark, Orangutan, Team Apex Gaming, and Mahi Clutchers.

The promotional video featured gaming personalities Jonathan Gaming, Kaashvi, Mortal, ZGod, Kimyy, and Akop, alongside former India cricket captain, MS Dhoni. Dhoni's club, Mahi Clutchers, will be built through open qualifiers, allowing eligible players to compete under his banner.

Google Play also plans community unlocks, exclusive game offers, and opportunities for fans to attend the event. The company described its goal as creating a “grassroots-to-professional ladder,” where merit determines players' opportunities to compete professionally.

Google Play Arena's Potential Impact on India's Esports Ecosystem

Co-founder and managing director of NODWIN Gaming, Akshat Rathee, stated that the initiative builds on years of “building culture, moments and creators” across emerging esports markets. He cited the ESL India Premiership and Snapdragon Pro Series as precedents for multi-game competition, while pointing to the Esports Foundation as a model for club-based esports.

Rathee thanked Google executives Aditya Swamy and Kanika Kalra, as well as the teams at both companies and the participating clubs and publishers.

Google Play Arena could strengthen India's esports ecosystem by giving aspiring players a clearer route into professional competition across multiple games. Its long-term success will depend on whether the open qualifiers translate into sustained opportunities for emerging talent beyond the inaugural championship.
