Highlights

  • 007 First Light became IO Interactive's fastest-selling game with 1.5 million day-one sales.
  • Steam generated an estimated 500K copies sold, led by demand in the U.S. and China.
  • The strong launch strengthens IO Interactive's plans for a future Bond trilogy.

007 First Light has become the fastest-selling game in IO Interactive's history, reaching 1.5 million copies sold within 24 hours of launch. The James Bond action-adventure released on May 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with pre-order buyers getting 24-hour early access on May 26. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is due later this summer.

The launch outperformed every previous release from the studio behind the Hitman series, including its biggest Hitman titles, and gives the James Bond franchise its largest gaming success in years.

007 First Light sales driven by strong Steam and global demand

Roughly a third of the game's day-one sales came from Steam, where it sold an estimated 500,000 copies and generated about $25 million in revenue, according to Alinea Analytics. About a third of those players had previously played a Hitman title, pointing to crossover from IO Interactive's existing audience.

The U.S. accounted for 29% of Steam players, with China the second-largest market at 18%.

Alinea Analytics head of market analysis Rhys Elliott said the game's PC performance stood out as another case of a console-focused franchise succeeding on Steam. He added that the early results were encouraging for Amazon, which controls the Bond rights and licensed the game to IO Interactive.

IO Interactive called the result a significant achievement for the studio, citing "overwhelming global enthusiasm" for the game.

Critical reception strengthens Bond franchise ambitions

The commercial debut followed strong reviews. IO Interactive said the game holds an 88 OpenCritic rating and an 87 Metacritic score, its highest-rated title to date. Reviewers praised its action sequences, globe-trotting missions, and take on the Bond fantasy.

The game reached the milestone before the Nintendo Switch 2 version arrives, adding another platform in the months ahead. IO Interactive has previously said it wants to build a James Bond trilogy, and the debut gives that plan an early boost.
