Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe Leak Amid Ubisoft Restructuring

New Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe details surface during a turbulent period for Ubisoft.

Highlights

  • The Hexe leak points to a 2027 release, with June cited as a possible launch window.
  • Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced reached 99,451 concurrent Steam players, the highest for an Assassin’s Creed title.
  • Ubisoft’s restructuring continues as Barcelona employees push for job security and restored remote-work terms.

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe could launch with three editions starting at $69.99 USD. The new leak surfaced days after Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced sold 2M copies in 24 hours. The developments also come as Ubisoft faces a strike at its Barcelona studio over 51 proposed job cuts.

A prominent Ubisoft leaker, @AgaiinTx, shared details about Hexe on July 14, 2026. The Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s editions are reportedly priced at $69.99, $89.99, and $119.99. This would follow the pricing structure used for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The leak also lists a Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) 18 rating and versions for Xbox, PS5, and PC. Denuvo, an expansion pack, and a boosters pack were also mentioned. Ubisoft has not confirmed the claims yet.

Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson previously pointed to a 2027 launch. However, the leaker suggested June 2027 as a possible window, though it could be a placeholder. Previous reports indicate the witch-themed game will use a more linear structure. That would support Ubisoft’s promise of a different Assassin’s Creed experience.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Success Comes Amid Ubisoft Barcelona Strike

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launched on July 9, 2026, and became an unexpected commercial hit following a strong opening-day performance. It also topped Twitch that day. Moreover, Steam concurrent players peaked at 99,451 within 24 hours, setting a franchise record.

The remake holds an 85% OpenCritic score and 84 on Metacritic. IGN awarded it 9/10, while Digital Foundry praised its technical execution.

Ubisoft Singapore led development using the latest Anvil engine. The remake updates the 2013 game with improved visuals, stealth, combat, parkour, naval mechanics, and new narrative content. Edward Kenway’s Caribbean story also features Anne Bonny, Blackbeard, and Calico Jack. It is available on Ubisoft+, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, the Ubisoft Store, and the Epic Games Store.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft Barcelona workers launched a three-day strike organized by the Coordinadora Sindical del Videojuego (CSVI) union. The team contributed to the remake’s underwater levels and water technology. Animator Manel Cota stated on X, “that same team is being fired right now."

Workers want the proposed layoffs canceled, 60% remote work restored, stronger job protections, and promised promotions and pay increases. Ubisoft noted that the restructuring remains under consultation and would shift Barcelona’s focus solely to Rainbow Six.

The dispute follows wider cost cuts after Tencent invested $1.25B in Vantage Studios. Ubisoft has since cut 40 Toronto jobs and 105 Red Storm positions, while 93 San Francisco roles faced potential cuts. Net bookings also fell 54% year-over-year (YoY) in May 2026, contrasting with the company’s restructuring and Assassin’s Creed’s recent commercial performance.

Ubisoft’s challenge now is to carry Assassin’s Creed’s commercial momentum into Hexe while navigating the workforce pressures surrounding its broader restructuring.
