KRAFTON India has confirmed that BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI) Lite will launch in India by the end of 2026, introducing a lighter way to access its flagship battle royale. The company announced the release on Aug 16, 2026, with the message, “You Asked. We Listened,” but has yet to reveal its gameplay features, device requirements, size, or exact launch date.
The announcement expands an ecosystem built around BGMI, which has crossed 260M downloads in India. KRAFTON India also publishes Road To Valor: Empires, Bullet Echo India, CookieRun India, and Real Cricket. The company has invested more than $250M USD in Indian startups since 2021 and supports emerging developers through the KRAFTON India Gaming Incubator (KIGI).
Its broader startup push includes the INR 6,000 Cr KRAFTON India Unicorn Growth Fund with Naver and Mirae Asset.
BGMI Lite Could Target Lower-Spec Smartphones
KRAFTON has not confirmed whether BGMI Lite will replicate PUBG Mobile Lite's approach.
The 2019 Indian release was designed for entry-level Android smartphones, with a download size of around 400MB and support for devices with less than 2GB of RAM. It featured smaller maps, 60-player matches, and 10-minute rounds, while running on Unreal Engine (UE) 4 and becoming Google Play’s top free game in India.
The current BGMI version requires at least 2GB RAM, whereas 4GB or 6GB is recommended, with roughly 2GB to 5GB of available storage. However, BGMI Lite's requirements remain unconfirmed.
PUBG Mobile is Also Getting a Lighter Version
The move coincides with PUBG Mobile Lite, a separate global app targeting a later 2026 release. PUBG Mobile producer, Rick Li, stated that the app will maintain the “high-quality PUBG Mobile standard” while offering a lighter way to play, with an initial download of around 1GB on Android and under 2GB on iOS. Existing PUBG Mobile accounts, items, and squads can carry over, while pre-registration is set to begin Aug 25, 2026.
KRAFTON’s move to bring BGMI Lite to India alongside PUBG Mobile Lite reflects its broader push to expand access to its games across devices and markets.
