Crimson Desert, the upcoming open-world action-adventure game from Pearl Abyss, has generated over an estimated $20 million USD in pre-order revenue on Steam three days ahead of its March 19 launch. According to Alinea Insights, the title sold 400K pre-launch copies by March 16, 2026, resulting in the revenue figure.
The title has already climbed Steam’s global top sellers chart, signaling early demand among core PC audiences. It is also the fourth most-wishlisted game on SteamDB, with 172.8K players' activity.
Notably, the title has surpassed Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Expedition 33 in pre-launch revenue. In comparison to Crimson Desert, Deliverance 2 and Expedition 33 had generated $5.2M and $2.4M, respectively, in pre-launch sales on Steam three days before their release.
The estimate, based on unit sales projections, positions Crimson Desert as one of the most successful pre-launch performers in the premium AAA segment this year. However, for AAA titles, the conversion rate of wishlist-to-buyer is quite low, around 6-7% a week following release.
Strong Crimson Desert Pre-Orders Signal a Grand Launch
Pearl Abyss’ Crimson Desert is launching globally on March 19, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. While the pre-order momentum on Steam signals an early demand, the title’s success would depend ultimately on the quality of the game and players’ perception of it.
As of now, the game has observed sustained player activity on Steam since it became available for preordering on the platform. As per Alinea, Crimson Desert has accumulated over 1M new Steam wishlists since February, including 680K by mid-March.
Early gameplay showcases, including PlayStation 5 footage, and community engagement translated into this success. Crimson Desert’s market campaign reportedly pushed almost 10% of the total sales within a 24-hour window on March 16.
On March 17, the first gameplay footage of Crimson Desert on the base PlayStation 5 was released, assuring fans about the visual quality on a lower-spec device. Earlier, on March 12, the developer provided complete access to the game to Digital Foundry, so players could get an idea about Crimson Desert on PS5 Pro.
The surge comes as developer Pearl Abyss positions Crimson Desert as one of its most ambitious projects to date. Crimson Desert is being marketed as a narrative-focused “premium experience” with cross-platform ambitions.
