Highlights

  • GTA V has surpassed 230M sales, extending its commercial run across three console generations.
  • Take-Two's latest results show continued strength across GTA, NBA 2K, and its mobile portfolio.
  • RDR and NBA 2K delivered further growth across Take-Two's established franchises.

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) has surpassed 230M units sold-in worldwide, extending its run across three console generations as Take-Two Interactive heads toward the Nov 19, 2026, launch of GTA VI. The broader GTA franchise has now sold-in nearly 475M units.

Take-Two reported $1.53B USD in first-quarter (Q1) fiscal year 2027 (FY27) net revenue for the three months ended June 30, up 2% year-over-year (YoY). Net bookings reached $1.39B, slightly above guidance, while net loss rose to $34.1M.

However, GTA's recurrent consumer spending increased 3%, supported by continued GTA Online content and GTA+.

GTA V Leads Take-Two's Established Franchises

The company's other major franchises also posted strong figures. Red Dead Redemption (RDR) has sold nearly 116M units, with RDR 2 accounting for more than 87M. NBA 2K26 exceeded 12M units, up 9% from its predecessor, while recurrent consumer spending grew 7%.

Average daily active users (DAUs) rose 15%, MyCAREER daily active users increased 25%, and average games played per user climbed 35%.

Take-Two also reported growth across several mobile properties. Toon Blast and Words With Friends each increased net bookings 8%, while Top Eleven rose 15%. NBA 2K All-Star crossed 10M registered users in China, and the direct-to-consumer (D2C) mobile channel continued to contribute to revenue and margins.

Take-Two Maintains $8.2 Billion FY27 Target

Take-Two retained its $8B to $8.2B FY27 net bookings forecast, with Rockstar Games expected to contribute 37%, Zynga 34%, and 2K 29%. The company expects operating cash flow above $1B and plans about $290M in capital expenditures.

The quarter also included a $43.4M impairment after Take-Two abandoned an unannounced third-party title. Meanwhile, Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, described GTA VI pre-orders as "exceptional" while declining to provide figures. Rockstar will show an extended look at GTA VI on Aug 27, 2026.

Take-Two's upcoming slate includes NBA 2K27 on Sep 4, Mafia: The Old Country's Man of Honor expansion on August 14, WWE 2K26's WrestleMania 42 Pack on Aug 19, and further Borderlands 4 content in Sep 2026.

GTA V's longevity has turned it from a successful release into a durable commercial ecosystem, keeping Rockstar's flagship series relevant across multiple hardware cycles. GTA VI now carries the challenge of translating that accumulated cultural and commercial momentum into a new era for the franchise.
