Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) might generate between $3.25B USD and $5.2B in its first week, according to Newzoo. At the upper end, the forecast would put its launch revenue at nearly four times GTA V's roughly $1.15B first-week total.
GTA VI has already recorded a strong start in digital pre-orders. Newzoo's Game Performance Monitor tracked $180M in spending across the U.S. and five major European markets. The firm estimates the global total at roughly $260M.
Newzoo’s management consultant, Ronan Patrick, told Insider Gaming that it was "the largest opening Newzoo has observed." The firm also rejected claims that GTA VI had already made $1B from pre-orders as "absurd."
GTA VI Could Surpass Earlier Revenue Estimates
Rockstar Games has yet to begin its full marketing push. Trailer 3 is also still pending, leaving room for demand to grow before launch.
Newzoo's projection factors in sales of the $79.99 standard edition and the $99.99 Ultimate Edition. The early pace could also put GTA VI ahead of a previous estimate by Konvoy General Partner, Josh Chapman, who projected $7.6B in revenue during its first 60 days.
However, GTA V set another benchmark when it crossed $1B in sales within three days of its 2013 launch. GTA VI's early performance suggests the gap between the two releases could widen as its launch approaches.
GTA VI is scheduled for Nov 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Reports have claimed that PlayStation pre-orders are outpacing Xbox by six to one. Lower marketing visibility on Xbox was cited as one factor, although Microsoft disputed the claim.
The game's boxed version will contain a download code instead of a physical disc. This keeps distribution digital and could reduce Rockstar's physical production costs. GTA VI was also reportedly removed from some PlayStation marketing amid criticism of Sony's wider digital strategy. The change does not appear to have affected early pre-orders.
With months remaining before release, the early sales trajectory indicates GTA VI could establish a new commercial benchmark for premium game launches.
