Capcom is having a phenomenal year, and it has the undead to thank for it. Resident Evil Requiem is off to a staggering start, pushing past 8 million copies sold and officially becoming the fastest-selling game in the survival horror franchise's history. The monumental milestone was confirmed in Capcom’s newly released financial report for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026, which covers April 1 through June 30. Launched just recently on February 27, 2026, the game took roughly four months to cross the 8M threshold, reaching about 8.06M by the quarter's close. To put that blistering momentum into perspective, it took the acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake 14 months to achieve the same feat.
The game showed incredibly strong early traction, moving 6M units by mid-March alone. Capcom notes that Requiem continues to garner massive popularity from a global audience, aided by active pricing strategies and steady demand. Copies are rapidly flying off digital and physical shelves across all available platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
This massive software performance directly fueled one of Capcom's strongest financial quarters to date. Across the entire company, the publisher sold a whopping 23.81M units of games during Q1, a massive leap compared to the 14.16M units moved during the same period last year. This resulted in net sales of ¥70.41 billion ($429.5 million USD), representing a staggering 54.7% year-on-year increase. Ordinary profits saw an equally massive surge, jumping 81.1% over the previous year to hit ¥41.45B ($252.5M).

A Historic Changing of the Guard for the Resident Evil Franchise
Beyond its newest hit, the broader Resident Evil franchise remains an absolute powerhouse, reaching an astonishing 213M cumulative sales worldwide. In a historic shift, the franchise now has a new all-time best-seller. Resident Evil 5 held the crown for years with just over 19M copies sold, but the 2019 Resident Evil 2 remake has officially dethroned it, currently sitting at an incredible 19.75M copies sold globally.
The rest of the modern lineup remains just as healthy and impressive. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has reached 18.41M units, followed by the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake climbing to 16.04M units, Resident Evil Village holding strong at 15.86M, and the Resident Evil 3 remake pushing 14.52M copies sold, as per Gosugamers.
While survival horror was the undisputed star of the financial show, Capcom's other major releases are holding their own and padding out these financial victories. The company's new action-adventure IP, Pragmata, successfully surpassed 2.5M units sold following strong promotional pushes and positive player reception.
Meanwhile, Devil May Cry 5 continues to have incredible staying power, pushing 14M units, a milestone Capcom attributes to recent ports and the popular Netflix anime adaptation. Finally, Monster Hunter Wilds has seen a notable increase in sales, driven by renewed player excitement following the announcement of the 2027 Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion.
