Rovio has officially launched the "Season of Football" in Angry Birds 2, delivering a massive limited-time event inspired by the excitement of the FIFA World Cup taking place this summer. Blending the raw passion of real-world sports with accessible mobile gaming, the seasonal update adds a diverse range of football-themed activities, challenges, and rewards. It also introduces a highly anticipated Treasure Pass season and a special collaboration featuring Brazil's famously hot-headed national mascot, Canarinho Pistola.
At the center of this seasonal celebration is "The Great Debate," a fun social media campaign and in-game event. Series protagonist Red has welcomed Canarinho to participate in settling the long-running argument over whether the game should be called "football" or "soccer." Fans have until June 10 to cast their votes and pledge allegiance to a side, with the winning team earning an exclusive bundle of in-game goodies for an early advantage.
Canarinho features as a special guest throughout the season, and players can even access a new Canarinho Spell in-game. This limited-time ability brings the mascot's signature "Pistola" energy to Piggy Island, dropping a massive football-inspired gameplay boost to help players knock pesky pigs off the pitch.

Competitive Offerings and the Angry Birds Cup
The update completely overhauls standard gameplay with a fresh slate of competitive new offerings. For those looking for a tougher test of precision, the Golden Ball Challenge gives players only one attempt per room to eliminate obstacles and defeat the Golden Pig. Fans seeking head-to-head action can jump into the Football Showdown Bracket Tournament, allowing players to compete against one another in a fierce, bracket-style football competition.
Additionally, the Angry Birds Cup will allow players to represent their real-life countries in a global community competition. Fans can work together by popping pigs and contributing toward national progress milestones to unlock collective prizes for their region.
To truly bridge the gap between digital gaming and live sports, Rovio is introducing this unprecedented real-world tie-in starting on June 11. Through the new Red Feather Cards system, gameplay is directly linked to real-world football action. Whenever a player is issued a red card in an actual professional football match, Angry Birds 2 players will automatically be rewarded with Red Feathers.
These valuable items permanently boost Red’s in-game power, transforming the frustration of live tournament fouls into an immediate gameplay advantage. The Season of Football is available right now for iOS and Android devices.
