Sony has announced a global price increase for PlayStation 5 hardware, with updated recommended retail prices taking effect on April 2, 2026. The change applies to the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, PlayStation 5 Pro, and the PlayStation Portal remote player.
All console models are increasing by at least $100 USD, making this the largest price adjustment since the console launched in November 2020.
Sony stated the increase reflects “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” The company added that the adjustment was necessary to maintain delivery of high-quality gaming experiences worldwide.

PS5 Price Increase Reflects Rising Manufacturing Costs and Market Pressure
The increase follows Sony’s previous hardware price revision in August 2025. Since then, DRAM memory prices have reportedly risen by more than 170% year-over-year (YoY), adding pressure to console production costs. The broader electronics industry is also facing tariffs, component shortages linked to the surge in generative AI demand, and higher manufacturing costs.
Microsoft raised Xbox hardware prices multiple times last year, while Nintendo warned that rising costs could affect profitability.
Historically, console prices have declined later in the lifecycle, but current market conditions have reversed that trend, making hardware more expensive. Sony’s latest increase places the PS5 lineup at its highest pricing since launch and reflects sustained pressure across the console market.
