Highlights
- Xbox is changing how cloud gaming works for Game Pass subscribers.
- The new system will take effect in November 2026.
- Xbox is also introducing a new way to access cloud gaming without Game Pass.
Xbox will change how cloud gaming is included with Game Pass beginning in November 2026, replacing unlimited access for eligible subscribers with monthly hour allowances. Announced on Sep 3, the change is expected to affect about 4% of Game Pass subscribers.
Xbox Game Pass Cloud Gaming Hours Vary by Plan
The allowances will vary by subscription tier.
Game Pass Ultimate will include 15 hours per month, Game Pass Premium will provide 10 hours, while Game Pass Essential will offer 5 hours. Players who use their allocation can purchase additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store.
Xbox has not yet revealed pricing.
Before November, it will provide details on additional-hour purchases, market availability, eligible games, and how users can check their remaining time. Available hours and cloud features will vary by market.
The company reported that the change is intended to address the increasing cost of cloud gaming as more people use the service for longer periods. Xbox noted the model will allow continued investment in reliability and performance, while acknowledging that some players could face higher costs.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Opens Access to Non-Subscribers
From November, players without Game Pass can purchase cloud playtime and stream eligible games they own on supported devices. Xbox One owners can also access eligible Xbox Series X|S games through cloud gaming without immediately upgrading their hardware. This could be useful in markets where newer consoles are less available or affordable.
Xbox will continue adding cloud support for more games throughout the year. It will also review player feedback before and after the rollout, making adjustments where necessary.
