Highlights

  • HoYoverse’s Zenless Zone Zero hit $600M in mobile revenue in two years, led by strong performance in Japan.
  • Though year-two revenue dipped, the title maintains long-term stability with consistent monthly spending.
  • Major content updates continue to drive significant engagement, securing the game as a successful live-service pillar.

HoYoverse’s urban fantasy action-RPG Zenless Zone Zero has officially crossed the $600 million USD milestone in gross mobile player spending during its first two years on the market. According to the latest estimates from AppMagic, the slick, fast-paced brawler generated roughly $603.9M across the Apple App Store and Google Play since its highly anticipated global launch on July 4, 2024. While clearing over half a billion dollars firmly cements the game as a major commercial success, it also highlights the natural shift in the live-service landscape as the title establishes its own dedicated niche.

The massive total only tells part of the story, as it reflects a natural leveling off after the game's explosive arrival. Zenless Zone Zero raked in an impressive $442.1M during its first twelve months after its release on the back of a massive 40M pre-registrations. However, mobile player spending experienced a 51% drop during its sophomore year, coming in at $198.9M.

Industry experts note that this drop-off is standard for high-profile gacha games once launch hype settles down. Furthermore, the mobile store figures don't capture the game's complete financial footprint, as a significant portion of players have likely migrated to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S to utilize traditional controllers or spend directly through HoYoverse's web shop and alternative Chinese Android storefronts.

In a fascinating twist for the studio, Zenless Zone Zero has broken tradition by finding its most lucrative audience outside of domestic borders. Unlike older titles, Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, which both historically drew their biggest earnings from China, this urban fighter has found its true home in Japan. Japanese players account for a staggering 42% of the game’s lifetime mobile spending. China ranks second with 27% of the revenue, followed by the United States in third place at 10%.

Comparing HoYoverse’s Historic Lineup

When compared to HoYoverse’s historic lineup, Zenless Zone Zero sits in a comfortable middle ground. It generated about 17% of the mobile revenue brought in by the studio's open-world phenomenon, Genshin Impact, which accumulated a towering $3.6B on mobile during its first two years, as per Pocketgamer.biz.

While it continues a trend of newer HoYoverse titles seeing more moderated returns compared to that historic peak, Zenless Zone Zero is still vastly outperforming the studio's older roots. Its two-year total outpaces the first two years of Honkai Impact 3rd, which brought in $322.7M between 2016 and 2018, by a massive 87%.

The Zenless Zone Zero remains incredibly durable as it moves deeper into 2026, consistently averaging more than $10M in monthly mobile spending, with this past June bringing in $11.8M. Major content drops still spark massive waves of player spending.

The recent rollout of the Version 3.0 anniversary update introduced the breathtaking sky island of Roscaelifer, the new Wind attribute, and highly anticipated gacha banners featuring characters Velina and Ye Shunguang. It increased daily mobile revenue by 217%, reaching $1.7 million in a single day. Though this was short of the game's all-time daily record of $10.7M set during the Version 2.5 launch on December 30, 2025, it proves the Zenless Zone Zero has long-term staying power.

With HoYoverse recently securing a spot on the Top 30 China Game Makers 2026 list, the studio's stylish urban experiment has firmly established itself as a profitable, self-sustaining pillar in a brutal market. As fans eagerly look forward to the narrative expansions coming in Version 3.1, Zenless Zone Zero continues to prove that you don't need to break all-time records to be a certified runaway success.
