Highlights

  • 100 Meters entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films at No. 6, with 2.6M viewing hours in its first week on the platform.
  • The ranking reinforces strong global demand for anime movies, following similar success by titles like Grave of the Fireflies and Southeast Asian animated hits.
  • The sports anime film, adapted from Uoto’s manga, has earned high Rotten Tomatoes scores, global box-office traction, and awards recognition.

The Japanese animated feature 100 Meters has entered Netflix’s Global Top 10 for Non-English Films at No. 6, according to the streamer’s official weekly rankings between Dec 29, 2025, and Jan 4, 2026. The ranking places the film among the most-watched non-English titles worldwide for the tracking week, reaffirming anime’s strong cross-cultural demand globally.

Netflix’s Global Top 10 is compiled based on total viewing hours across all markets, making it one of the few public indicators to understand a movie’s comparative demand on the platform. According to the data published by Tudum, 100 Meters, which started streaming on Dec 31, 2025, generated a total of 1.5 million views, resulting in 2.6M viewing hours in the mentioned week.

100 Meters’ sixth-place entry in Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films reflects a growing appetite for feature-length anime on mainstream streaming platforms. And, it is not a singular incident; anime movies like  Grave of the Fireflies have previously entered this list.

Interestingly, on Netflix, animated features from Southeast Asia are generating significant views; K-pop Demon Hunter is already the most viewed movie title on the streaming platform. The previous week (Dec 22 - Dec 28, 2025), Indonesian animated feature Jumbo took seventh place among Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films.

Production and Distribution of 100 Meters

The film was first showcased at France’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2025 and formally released in theaters for a wider audience in September 2025, in Japan. Following that, a limited international cinema rollout, handled by GKIDS, in select international markets started in October.

The movie adapts an original manga by illustrator Uoto, and follows the story of two runners, Togashi and Komiya, blending sport-rivalry with slice-of-life elements. The movie was directed by Kenji Iwaisawa and produced by Rock 'n' Roll Mountain. The movie is also a critical hit; it currently has 100% Tomatometer approval on Rotten Tomatoes and 93% Popcornmeter rating.

Despite being a niche sports title, the movie had a moderate theatrical run. The movie grossed 102,666,040 yen (~ $694.7K USD) in its first three days and held the eighth rank on its opening weekend. 100 Meters also got shortlisted for Academy Awards due to its successful run in the U.S. It opened in the U.S. with roughly $62K earning, and during its full theatrical run, it grossed around 3.6M globally.

100 Meters’ sixth-place ranking comes amid a strong period for anime movies globally. Last year has seen titles such as Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, K-pop Demon Hunter, Reze Arc, and many other animated films perform strongly both in theaters and on streaming platforms, benefiting from heightened international awareness and improved localization pipelines.
