Episode 4, The Perfect Crimson, left major confrontations unresolved. Kenpachi Zaraki’s unnamed Bankai overwhelmed Gerard Valkyrie before The Miracle restored the Sternritter. However, Toshiro Hitsugaya, in his Adult Bankai form, and Byakuya Kuchiki continued their attacks on Gerard. Ichigo Kurosaki then entered his Horn of Salvation form and combined Getsuga Tensho with Gran Rey Cero, catching Yhwach off guard despite The Almighty.
Meanwhile, Hollows began invading Karakura Town through the rift opened by Yhwach, while Renji Abarai and Rukia Kuchiki headed toward Wahrwelt.
Gerard's apparent immortality remains central to the conflict. His Quincy Cross is tied to his power, and Tite Kubo confirmed through Klub Outside Q&A 475 that destroying it would defeat him. Gerard is also identified as the Heart of the Soul King, whereas Pernida represents the left arm and Jushiro Ukitake carries the right arm.
