Highlights

  • BTS Arirang has sparked a huge surge in global streams, with Luminate data revealing a milestone that only a few of the 2026 releases have achieved.
  • BTS’ physical album sales have also hit a high benchmark, leaving runners-up acts trailing by a staggering four-to-one margin.
  • Beyond BTS’ fan loyalty, fresh data showcases a rapidly growing mainstream audience for the group, signaling a new phase in their global popularity.

BTS’ fifth full-length album, Arirang, has cemented the group's position as a dominant force in the global music market, seizing billions of streams and unparalleled physical sales. As per data from music market tracker Luminate, the March 2026 release has bolstered the group beyond the usual K-pop segment into mainstream global markets, backed by record-high consumer engagement and notable cross-genre appeal.

Between March 20 and May 14, Arirang produced 3.8 billion streams across platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music. This pushed BTS’ total catalog past 5.3B streams during that period. Notably, the album's lead track, Swim, crossed 500M cumulative Spotify streams by May 26, thus making it the first song released globally this year to reach that milestone. Every B-side track on the album has also topped 100M streams on the platform.

BTS Shows Strong Demand Across the Americas

Luminate’s analysis shows that BTS' global popularity is widely distributed rather than being regionally concentrated. Notably, Latin America recorded the largest share of total discography streams at 27%, followed by Northeast Asia at 17%, North America at 14%, Southeast Asia at 13%, and Europe at 12%.

This digital momentum comes amidst strong demand in traditional physical formats. As suggested by Luminate data, BTS topped the U.S. physical music charts during the same tracking period. It sold 810,000 physical copies, including CDs and vinyl records, across their entire catalog. Through this performance, the group did not just dominate the charts, they outsold the runners-up combined by a massive four-to-one margin in physical sales.

BTS Expands Beyond K-pop Fans

Apart from the raw consumption metrics, the data showcases a growing footprint in general public interest and an evolving listener base. Luminage reveals that amongst people who know BTS, 26% come off as engaged listeners, while 9% emerge as superfans. Both metrics mark a record high since the tracking began in 2021. Interestingly, the band is attracting non-traditional consumers, particularly hip-hop fans, who typically do not listen to K-pop but now represent 7% of those familiar with the group.

As noted by the Korea JoongAng Daily, BigHit Music observed in a statement that these steady year-over-year surges signal a favorability towards BTS, which has grown past its core fandom. Supported by this highly loyal base, the group continues to capture mainstream listeners and rewrite the scope of global pop success.
