Golden Oscar Nomination Highlights Unusual Songwriting Structure
If Golden wins the Academy Award for Best Original Song, it would become the first winner in the category with more than four credited writers. The song lists seven writers: EJAE, Yu Han Lee, Mark Sonnenblick, Hee Dong Nam, Joong Gyu Kwak, Jeong Hoon Seo, and Teddy Park.
Only two songs with four writers have previously won: Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do) from Arthur and Shallow from A Star Is Born.
The rules of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also affect how the award would be distributed. The rulebook states, “In cases where five or more credited songwriters function as collaborators, a single statuette may be awarded to the group.”
If Golden wins, all seven writers would be recognized as Oscar winners but would share one trophy.

Six of the song’s seven writers were born in South Korea. If Golden wins, they would become the first South Koreans to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song. South Korean artists have previously won Oscars in other categories. Bong Joon-ho, Kwak Sin-ae, and Han Jin-won won for Parasite at the 2020 Academy Awards, while Youn Yuh-jung won Best Supporting Actress for Minari in 2021.
Golden is also one of two songs scheduled to be performed at the ceremony, alongside I Lied to You from Sinners, a film that received 16 nominations.
