The internet has a new undisputed champion of hype, and it wears a mask. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios just dropped the first official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it was a giant success. In fact, it just became the most-watched trailer in entertainment history, racking up a staggering 718.6 million global views in its first 24 hours. Sony Pictures announced the milestone on Thursday, officially dethroning Rockstar Games' highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI and proving that Marvel's wall-crawler still resonates deeply with audiences around the world.
To put that monumental achievement into context, the GTA 6 trailer released in May 2025 previously held the crown, reaching an incredible 475 million views in less than a day. At the time, Rockstar proudly announced it was the biggest debut for anything, ever, easily surpassing the 365 million views that Deadpool & Wolverine clocked in it’s first 24 hours.
But the web-slinger’s new teaser, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, moved at lightning speed. It crossed 373 million views by the eight-hour mark and left the GTA 6 benchmark in the dust before even 12 hours had passed—a massive feat considering early clips had already leaked online.
How Sony and Rockstar Tally Trailer Views
You might be wondering how those massive numbers actually add up. The accounting for any trailer's total views isn't an exact science, as the videos are hosted in various places and endlessly re-uploaded across the web. For example, the Brand New Day trailer drew 14.8 million views directly on Sony's official YouTube account and over 10 million on the PlayStation YouTube page, as per Gamespot.
Similarly, the GTA 6 May 2025 trailer currently sits at 153 million views on Rockstar's YouTube page, while their very first trailer from December 2023 has 275 million views. Clearly, both Sony and Rockstar tally views from multiple partner channels, social media platforms, and global re-uploads to reach their final, record-breaking reporting.
Now, fans of both massive franchises have a colossal second half of 2026 staring them down. Brand New Day will come out ahead of GTA 6, swinging into theaters this July. Sony is undoubtedly hoping to translate this incredible digital momentum into box-office gold, much like Spider-Man: No Way Home did when it previously grossed nearly $1.9 billion worldwide. Gamers have a slightly longer wait for their return to Leonida, as GTA 6 is scheduled to follow later in the year, launching in November 2026, assuming the dates for both the movie and the game hold steady.
Even without the trailer crown, Rockstar's upcoming epic remains an absolute financial juggernaut. Analysts project that GTA 6 is expected to sell more than 40 million copies and drive a staggering $3 billion in revenue during its first year alone.
While official box-office tracking for Brand New Day isn't available quite yet, it is expected to be a massive hit just like its predecessors, proving that blockbuster movie franchises can absolutely still match the cultural heat of the biggest video game launches.
