Pixar’s decision to leave WALL-E as a standalone film dates back to 2016, when President of Pixar, Jim Morris, announced that the studio would shift toward original stories after Toy Story 4, Cars 3, and The Incredibles 2. However, a Sept 2, 2026, viral X post claims WALL-E 2 has been announced for summer 2028, with WALL-E and EVE returning to find Earth transformed into a massive Buy n Large crypto-mining facility.
There is currently no verified Pixar or Variety announcement supporting the claim.
Why Pixar Rejected WALL-E 2 in 2016
Released in 2008, WALL-E follows a waste-collecting robot who finds EVE on an abandoned Earth and eventually joins humanity aboard the Axiom. The film earned more than $521M USD worldwide, received five Academy Award nominations, and won Best Animated Feature.
In a 2016 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Morris stated that Pixar's filmmaker-driven approach meant sequels required a genuine creative reason. Regarding WALL-E, he said the story was “really a love story that had its beginning, middle and end,” although he acknowledged that revisiting its world could show humanity rebuilding Earth.
At the time, Pixar's announced sequel run consisted of Cars 3 in 2017, Toy Story 4 in 2018, and The Incredibles 2 in 2019. After those projects, the studio planned to prioritize original productions.
Pixar’s Sequel Revival Does Not Confirm WALL-E 2
That strategy eventually changed. Pixar later returned to established franchises, including with Inside Out 2, showing that sequels remained part of the studio’s long-term release strategy.
The WALL-E 2 claim, however, comes from an X account identified as a parody account. The account has used the names of prominent media outlets while also stating in its profile and description that it has no affiliation with those organizations. The claim therefore does not establish that Pixar is developing WALL-E 2.
For now, WALL-E remains a standalone film, consistent with the creative reasoning Pixar gave for not pursuing a sequel in 2016.
