Square Enix has confirmed a late 2027 launch for Kingdom Hearts IV, ending years of limited information about the sequel. The announcement also introduces a new Coco world and expands the franchise into anime.

Four years after Kingdom Hearts IV was announced in 2022, Square Enix revealed during Disney’s D23 fan event that the sequel will arrive in late 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer showing Sora fighting enemies during a concert and riding sky rails. The footage likewise introduces Pixar’s Coco world, while Mickey, Goofy, and Hades work to reunite with Sora after his disappearance at the end of Kingdom Hearts III.

Kingdom Hearts IV Will Begin the Lost Master Arc

The sequel will begin a new storyline called the Lost Master Arc, with much of the game taking place in Quadratum, the Kingdom Hearts equivalent of Tokyo. Despite long periods without updates, series director Tetsuya Nomura has repeatedly reassured fans that development remains on track.

The June 2026 footage marked the first glimpse of the game since its 2022 announcement. The new release window therefore gives fans a clearer timeframe only months after Square Enix resumed showing the project.

Kingdom Hearts IV is available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. The official trailer also confirms that Coco joins the game as a new Disney and Pixar world.

Kingdom Hearts Expands Into Anime

The D23 event also brought news of an original Kingdom Hearts anime series coming to Disney+ and Disney Channel. Developed with Nomura and Square Enix, the project "reimagines the iconic adventure with a brand-new story," and expands the franchise's universe.

The franchise debuted on PlayStation 2 in March 2002 and has sold more than 39M units worldwide. Disney has also described Kingdom Hearts as one of its billion-dollar franchises, while the new game and anime arrive as the series approaches its 25th anniversary in 2027.

The new trailer shifts the focus beyond Kingdom Hearts III, placing Sora in a new setting where Pixar’s Coco joins the series’ expanding Disney lineup, alongside appearances from Mickey, Goofy, and Hades.
