T1 vs. Elon Musk: Faker to face Grok in Esports

Last month, Musk posted on X suggesting a match between xAI division's Grok 5 technology and the top LoL team, T1. Nevertheless, the match will have some “constraints” to keep it fair, where the AI tech would only be able to observe the game through a camera and have human-level reaction times and click rates rather than direct code access. With these regulations in play, the exhibition match would mark a departure from usual AI vs. Human contests.

Post the announcement, a variety of opinions surfaced online. Some social media users are enthusiastic and view it as a lighthearted showdown, particularly among Korean fans who perceive it as a test of esports pride. Others are dubious or contemptuous, claiming that AI is not yet ready to play at the highest levels in complex team games or that they would lose interest if bots replaced human rivals. Nonetheless, T1 has accepted the challenge by publicly replying to Musk’s X post.

Faker's comments came amid the announcement of a four-year contract extension with T1 until 2029, showcasing his dedication to the organization that has characterized his career since 2013. At 29, when many esports players retire, he emphasized that his motivation and enthusiasm have remained strong.
