Krafton India Plans Two New BGMI Esports Tournaments in Late 2025
Highlights
- Krafton India will host two major BGMI tournaments in late 2025, including a domestic competition and an international qualifier event.
- The new events follow a packed year of BGMI esports, with BGIS, BMPS, and Masters Series keeping fans engaged.
- Krafton postponed the BGMI Franchise League but aims to revisit the franchise model as India’s esports scene continues evolving.
Krafton India is reportedly gearing up to host two new Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) esports tournaments in the latter half of 2025. One of these events will be a domestic competition, while the other will act as a qualifier for an international tournament, potentially linking Indian teams to the global PUBG Mobile competitive scene. These upcoming tournaments are expected to follow the BGMI India Series (BGIS) and Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS), both of which concluded their seasons in the first half of 2025.
While specific dates and venues remain undisclosed, a report suggests that official announcements are imminent, with the tournament roadmap already finalized. The new events are slated to take place after September, once the ongoing BGMI Masters Series 2025, organized by Nodwin Gaming, wraps up. One of the competitions is likely a revival of the popular BGMI Showdown, a short-format invitational last held in 2022. The other tournament is yet to be named but is expected to closely follow the Masters Series, ensuring a packed competitive calendar with little downtime between high-profile events.
KRAFTON’s Announcement Comes Just Weeks After Reported Franchise League Halt
These developments arrive in the wake of Krafton’s decision to postpone its ambitious BGMI Franchise League, which was conceived as a revolutionary esports initiative akin to India’s Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket model. This league was envisioned to feature long-term franchise slots for organizations and attract big-name sponsorships and large-scale venues. However, reports indicated that the reception to the franchise bidding fell short of expectations, prompting Krafton to shelve the plan for the time being. Despite the setback, Krafton affirms that the franchise model remains part of its long-term vision, with plans to revisit the concept as the esports landscape evolves.
Even without the franchise league, Krafton has ensured a vibrant competitive scene for BGMI in 2025. The year began with BGIS in January, followed by the BMPS during summer, and the current ongoing Masters Series, which has captivated fans across the country. The strong tournament schedule has helped maintain BGMI’s dominance in the Indian esports market.
An important milestone for Indian BGMI esports this year was BMPS 2025 champions Team AxTMG’s invitation to compete in the international Esports World Cup 2025. This marked the first time in three years that an Indian BGMI team faced off against global PUBG Mobile squads on the world stage. Krafton India’s CEO, Sean Hyunil Sohn, recognized Indian teams’ eagerness to participate in global events and expressed the company’s intention to explore ways to bring international competition to India, addressing BGMI’s current limited global integration.
As Krafton continues to roll out new tournaments and nurture international ties, BGMI’s competitive ecosystem in India looks set for continued growth through the rest of 2025, keeping the community engaged and raising the profile of Indian esports on the global stage.
