Highlights

  • EA declares Battlefield 6 to be the best-selling shooter of 2025, surpassing 10M copies, with a Steam peak of 747k concurrent players.
  • Comparative metrics indicate that Battlefield 6 outperforms Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Arc Raiders in early sales, concurrency, and estimated player count.
  • With an estimated revenue of $512.9M and widespread positive engagement, Battlefield 6 signals a major win for EA after Battlefield 2042.

American video game publisher, Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), has officially declared its 2025 first-person shooter (FPS), Battlefield 6, as the “best-selling shooter game of the year.” The claim follows a blockbuster launch that saw Battlefield 6 sell over 7M copies in its first three days, and currently, the sales figure has reportedly crossed 10M copies.

Developed by Battlefield Studios, the title launched on Oct. 10, and within hours of its release, surpassed 747k concurrent players on Steam alone. Battlefield 6 also claimed the third spot on Steam's most-played games chart on its release day.

While EA hasn’t mentioned the cumulative earnings of the game, it informed earlier that the title has generated approximately $35M from pre-orders alone. Current estimation by Gamalytic shows a revenue of roughly $512.9M, within a month after its launch.

Apart from the raw sales figures, Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Ellliot stated that the game “seems to have won over the core PC audience,” to emphasize Battlefield 6’s engagement across the platforms.

Scrutinizing EA’s “Best-Selling” Claim

Even though Battlefield 6's early performance is impressive, it was launched in a highly competitive window, with games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Arc Raiders launching within a month of its release. Sales data show Black Ops 7’s physical launch was 61% lower than its predecessor, and even trailed Battlefield 6’s early figures.

On Steam, Black Ops 7 peaked at 100,332 concurrent players during its launch weekend; ARC Raiders, on the other hand, reportedly had a third-week peak of ~481,966 players, indicating lower figures than Battlefield 6’s launch day. Meanwhile, Battlefield 6 achieved a peak concurrent player count on Steam that eclipsed the franchise’s prior entries and placed it among the platform’s all-time top-20.

Statistically, Battlefield 6 currently has an estimated 9.3M players, whereas Arc Raiders and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 stop at 4.4M and 556.6K players, respectively.

A direct comparison with the title’s competitors and a deeper look at available metrics suggest that Battlefield 6 can be the most selling FPS of 2025, however, some caveats remain. CoD: Black Ops 7 has just launched and shows a promising start; therefore, it remains to be seen how all three of the titles perform in the long run. All three publishers are also yet to publish their official statement on earnings and sales metrics.

Nonetheless, for EA and the Battlefield franchise, the successful launch and the “best-selling shooter” label mark a significant win, particularly following the rough performance of Battlefield 2042 and the wake of EA’s broader operational transformation following its acquisition by Saudi-backed investors.
