Highlights

  • Resident Evil Requiem shattered franchise records with over 7 million copies sold since its February 2026 debut.
  • Capcom hiked its FY2026 profit forecast to ¥54.5 billion following the survival horror hit's global success.
  • Strong catalog sales and upcoming story DLC are set to sustain the publisher's record-breaking financial momentum.

Capcom has officially raised its earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, driven largely by the unprecedented global success of its newest survival horror blockbuster. Following its massive release on February 27, 2026, Resident Evil Requiem has completely shattered franchise records, already selling well over 7 million copies worldwide. This staggering wave of momentum has fueled stronger-than-expected revenue across the board, prompting the Japanese publisher to upwardly revise its estimates for net sales and overall profit.

The speed at which the newest nightmare is flying off digital and physical store shelves is entirely uncharted territory for the 30-year-old franchise. Requiem sold a whopping 5 million copies in just five days, instantly tying franchise highs and making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil game in history. By early March, sales climbed to 6 million, eventually crossing the 7 million mark.

To put this blistering, record-breaking pace into perspective, the highly successful 2023 remake of Resident Evil 4 took nearly ten months to reach roughly 6.5 million units. The game performed incredibly well on the PlayStation 5 while maintaining Capcom's typical PC strength, cementing its place among the franchise's top earners.

Revised Financial Estimates and Profit Surges

In a newly released financial statement, the publisher detailed the massive financial gains driven by the game's global acclaim. Capcom now expects consolidated net sales to reach ¥195.3 billion ($1.2 billion USD), a 3% jump from its previous ¥190B ($1.17B) estimate for the 12 months ending March 31. Operating profit is expected to rise to ¥75.2B ($463M) from ¥73B ($449M), while ordinary profit is set to hit ¥74.1B ($456M), up from ¥70B ($431M).

Furthermore, the company now expects a net profit attributable to shareholders of ¥54.5B ($336M), marking a 6.9% increase over the previous ¥51B ($314M) forecast, resulting in earnings per share of ¥130.29 ($0.80). Non-consolidated figures also saw sharp year-over-year improvements, with net sales eyed at ¥184B ($1.13B), operating profit at ¥70.8B ($436M), and net profit at ¥51B ($314M), as per IGN.

Strong Catalog Sales Boost Overall Revenue

While Resident Evil Requiem is the undeniable star of the quarter, Capcom credits its broader entertainment ecosystem for these massive financial victories. The company noted that it had seen unexpected growth in sales of older catalog titles, which heavily contributed to the outsized sales performance. Over the past year, Capcom has kept players engaged by actively supporting recent hits like Monster Hunter Wilds and Street Fighter 6 with continuous content updates.

"In our core Digital Contents business, in addition to Resident Evil Requiem being met with broad acclaim globally, sales grew for catalog titles from major series due to their steady popularity," Capcom wrote in its statement. "Additionally, Arcade Operations, Amusement Equipments, and Other Businesses all performed favorably."

Looking ahead, the momentum for Capcom shows no signs of slowing down. Anticipation is currently building for a mysterious content update for Resident Evil Requiem slated for next month. Players heavily suspect the return of the fan-favorite Mercenaries mode—especially after a recent datamine leak revealed tense new music tracks. Following that, a full-blown story DLC is currently in the works, ensuring Capcom’s flagship horror franchise will keep players on the edge of their seats well into the future.
