Capcom Reportedly Preparing New Resident Evil Remake
Resident Evil Code Veronica remake tipped as Capcom’s next reveal
Highlights
- .Capcom is reportedly planning a new Resident Evil remake reveal, focused on Code Veronica.
- An insider ruled out a Resident Evil 5 remake in the upcoming announcement.
- The project would continue Capcom’s successful remake strategy ahead of Resident Evil Requiem.
Capcom is expected to announce its next major Resident Evil remake later this year, with the project reportedly focused on Resident Evil: Code Veronica. The claim was made over the weekend by industry leaker Dusk Golem, who said the reveal will take place in 2026 and will not involve Resident Evil 5.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Dusk Golem, also known as AestheticGamer, dismissed speculation around other remakes, writing, “No, there is NOT a Resident Evil 5 Remake that's going to be announced this year. Instead, later this year a RE Remake that starts with "(C)" & ends "(ode Veronica)" is going to be announced, I promise you." The leaker has previously reported that remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica were in development.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake Fits Capcom’s Long-Term Strategy
Originally released in 2000, Resident Evil: Code Veronica debuted as a Dreamcast exclusive before later releases on PlayStation 2 and GameCube. Overseen by series creator Shinji Mikami, the game follows siblings Claire and Chris Redfield as they attempt to survive a viral outbreak on a remote prison island.
The reported remake would follow the launch of the next mainline entry, Resident Evil Requiem, which is scheduled for release in February 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.
Over the past decade, Capcom has released remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4. All three titles were well received by critics and fans and went on to sell millions of copies, establishing remakes as a core part of the franchise’s release strategy.
