Highlights

  • Google Play’s “buy once play anywhere” lets users access a game on mobile and PC with a single purchase.
  • Game Trials on Google Play let users try fully paid games before buying.
  • Google Play reaches 160M users on the You tab as the paid catalog expands.

Google Play has introduced new features focused on paid games, including a cross-platform “buy once, play anywhere” model and upcoming Game Trials. The updates were announced on March 11, 2026, during the GDC Festival of Gaming. They aim to improve how users discover, evaluate, and access games across mobile and PC.

The pricing model is now live on select titles such as Dungeon Clawler, OTTTD, and the Reigns series. It allows a single purchase to unlock both mobile and PC versions via Google Play Games.

Progress is synced through the Gamer Profile system, removing the need for separate purchases across devices. The rollout builds on Google Play’s mobile-PC integration introduced in September 2025. It currently sees 160M users engaging with the platform’s “You” tab each month.

Google is also expanding its paid catalog. Titles including Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, and Low-Budget Repairs are planned for release on Play in the coming months.

Google Play Game Trials and Discovery Updates

To address purchase hesitation, Google confirmed the rollout of Game Trials for select paid titles.

The company stated, “To help you more easily decide if you want to buy a game, we’re introducing Game Trials, a risk-free way to jump into the full version of a paid title at no cost.” Progress made during trials will carry over if users choose to purchase. Trials will launch first on mobile, followed by availability on PC.

Meanwhile, discovery and engagement updates accompany these changes. A new PC section in the Play Store Games tab highlights titles optimized for Windows. It also includes wishlist alerts that notify users of price drops. Community Posts, currently limited to English and select games, enable players to exchange tips, with a broader rollout planned.

Google is also extending its Gemini-powered Play Games Sidekick overlay to select paid titles, offering AI-generated tips during gameplay. The company noted these updates are part of a broader set of improvements planned for Google Play throughout 2026.
