GTA 6 PC Release Reportedly Targets Early 2027
Rockstar’s console-first strategy shapes GTA 6’s PC release.
Highlights
- GTA 6’s reported PC release window could shorten the wait for PC players.
- The PC launch could affect GTA 6’s online ecosystem and role-playing communities.
- Rockstar’s console-first approach continues to shape expectations around the game’s PC debut.
Rockstar Games is reportedly planning to release Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC between January and March 2027, according to a GamesBeat report published Oct 13, 2026. The report cites four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans who requested anonymity.
Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed the report yet.
The specified timeline would bring the PC version to players within months of the Nov 19, 2026, launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. By comparison, GTA 5 arrived on PC in April 2015, approximately 19 months after its September 2013 console debut.
GTA 6 PC Release Could Support Online Role-Playing
The reported window could affect the game’s multiplayer ecosystem.
Twitch CEO, Dan Clancy, told Bloomberg at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) that GTA 6’s online component would launch “next year.” However, Rockstar has not announced its features, name, or release date.
Rockstar’s August 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind the FiveM and RedM modification frameworks, also highlights its involvement in role-playing communities. FiveM supports GTA 5 role-playing servers on PC.
It was also reported that Rockstar has signaled plans for user-generated content (UGC) tools in GTA 6, though their implementation remains unconfirmed.
Rockstar Continues its Console-First Approach
Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, stated to Bloomberg in May 2026 that Rockstar “always starts on console,” explaining that the company prioritizes serving its core audience before expanding to other platforms.
In 2024, he said the lack of a PC announcement did not determine whether one would follow, adding that the company aims to reach consumers across suitable platforms over time. A year ago, he also told CNBC that the industry was moving towards PC and becoming more open.
Rockstar has previously released GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire, and Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC after their console debuts.
The studio has delayed GTA 6 twice, moving its initial 2025 window to May 2026 and then Nov 19, 2026. Take-Two has reiterated the current console date. PC performance, frame rate, resolution, and system requirements remain unannounced, and the reported release window is not confirmed.
Any PC version must meet Rockstar’s quality standards before launch.
