In a landmark step for India’s gaming ecosystem, the Indian Game Publishers and Developers Association (IGPDA) has officially been launched. The industry body aims to represent Indian game developers and publishers with a unified voice, supporting the recently introduced Online Gaming Bill and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global gaming hub.
Industry Veterans Back The IGPDA
IGPDA will champion the creation of Made-in-India IP, build talent for the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector, and help Indian studios create globally competitive AAA titles. As its first major strategic initiative, IGPDA has proposed a state partnership with Maharashtra, working with the government to make Mumbai a global games hub by attracting investments and gaming companies through policy support. This comes alongside the establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai, a dedicated Centre of Excellence for AVGC-XR skilling and innovation.
Kaustubh Dhavse, Chief Advisor (Investments & Strategy) to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, welcomed the initiative said in an official press release, “Our focus has been to drive strategic investments, foster global partnerships, and accelerate transformative infrastructure and technology initiatives in Maharashtra under the visionary leadership of Hon. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. We welcome this proactive initiative from the Indian games industry.”
The IGPDA has been formed with support from leading studios including Nazara Technologies, Gametion, nCore Games, Reliance Games, SuperGaming, Tara Gaming, underDOGS Studio, Aeos Games, and Dot9 Games.
Vishal Gondal, Founder and Chairman of nCore Games, hailed the formation as a turning point: He said, “For the first time, India’s developers and publishers have a unified voice. With the IGPDA, we can chart a future where Indian studios build iconic IP that competes globally. This is about more than games — it’s about creating a cultural legacy for India.”
Nitish Mittersain, CEO of Nazara Technologies, echoed Vishal’s statement, saying, “Nazara’s vision has always been anchored on IP-led growth. The IGPDA aligns perfectly with this mission, ensuring Indian creativity thrives globally and creates sustainable long-term value.”
Amit Khanduja, CEO of Reliance Games, emphasized the global opportunity by stating, “With the launch of IGPDA, we are committed to advancing the Make in India, for the World vision by producing original AAA games that bring Indian creativity and stories to global audiences.”
Roby John, CEO of SuperGaming, reinforced that Indian games can culturally connect with both domestic and global audiences: He said, “With Indus Battle Royale, we’ve proven Indian-made games can carry our culture and identity while appealing worldwide at scale. The IGPDA ensures Indian games take centre stage in the global gaming narrative.”
India’s gaming market has already surpassed $1 billion in 2025, yet over $800 million of that revenue flows annually to foreign titles with limited local investment. With IGPDA, the goal is to reverse this imbalance, empower homegrown studios, and position India as a global creative powerhouse.
The association’s first on-ground event in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra will be held in Mumbai later this year, bringing together developers, publishers, policy leaders, and investors to shape India’s gaming roadmap.
As India moves closer toward becoming a gaming superpower, the IGPDA’s unified platform is poised to lead a new wave of cultural exports, original IP creation, and AAA development ; strengthening not just the gaming economy, but India’s place on the global entertainment stage.
