Insomniac Reportedly Developing Open-World Daredevil Game

Insomniac Games is reportedly working on an open-world Daredevil video game planned for 2028. The report has not been accompanied by an official announcement from Insomniac, Sony, or Marvel Games.

The lack of confirmation leaves room for several possibilities regarding how the game could ultimately be developed and what direction its gameplay might take.

Insomniac’s Marvel Strategy Takes a Different Direction

The report comes as Insomniac begins a new phase of its Marvel work with Marvel’s Wolverine, which launched exclusively for PlayStation 5 on Sep 15, 2026. The studio's first Marvel project, the Spider-Man series, focused on Peter Parker and Miles Morales across three games. Wolverine takes a different approach to combat, traversal, and storytelling.

In an interview with Deadline, Insomniac Games creative director, Marcus Smith, explained that the team wanted its Wolverine to establish a separate identity rather than directly reproduce an existing interpretation. “How can we forge our own identity?” Smith said, while discussing the game's creative direction.

That approach shaped Marvel’s Wolverine.

Likewise, game director Mike Daly pointed out that Logan's traversal was built around his metal skeleton, weight, and physical strength. His enhanced senses also allow players to uncover lost memories through environmental clues and dedicated sequences.

However, Marvel’s Wolverine has also faced criticism from some players over its gameplay, particularly given the high expectations following Insomniac’s Spider-Man games. Pricing has also drawn criticism, with the PlayStation India official MRP listed at INR 5,599. Internationally, the Standard Edition is priced at $69.99 USD, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $79.99.

Some players have argued that the game does not offer enough value to justify that price.

Daredevil Could Bring a New Gameplay Formula

A reported open-world Daredevil project would present another opportunity for Insomniac to build gameplay around a Marvel character with a different skill set. Daredevil's close-range combat, heightened senses, and movement could require systems distinct from Spider-Man's mobility and Wolverine's grounded physicality.

For now, the project remains unconfirmed, leaving its development plans and potential release details unclear.

If the development is confirmed, the project would add another major Marvel character to Insomniac's growing portfolio. It would also allow the studio to continue creating separate gameplay identities for each hero.
