  • Netflix updates Squid Game: Unleashed with new mini-games, characters, and Season 3 tie-in rewards.

  • Game now features in-game chat, leaderboards, and a crew system to boost player interaction.

  • With 15.9M downloads, it’s Netflix’s second-most popular mobile game after GTA: San Andreas.

Netflix launched new content for its multiplayer game Squid Game: Unleashed on 27 June 2025, timed to coincide with the upcoming third season of the hit Korean series, the company reportedly announced.

Developed by Boss Fight, a Netflix Game Studio, Squid Game: Unleashed is a 32-player party royale game featuring challenges and environments inspired by the TV series. The latest update introduces new mini-games such as “Jump Rope,” “Hide and Seek,” and “Sky Squid Game.” Players can now select from additional characters, including Hwang Jun-ho, Lee Myung-gi, Kim Jun-hee, Kang No-eul, and Seon-nyeo, each with unique backgrounds and abilities, the company said in a blog post.

The update also enhances social features by adding real-time in-game chat, leaderboards, and crew systems to foster community engagement and competition. Notably, the “Play Along” feature, which has been expanded upon from its Season 2 version, allows users to unlock rewards by watching Season 3 episodes.

“As a toast to the series’ massive fandom, the game welcomes fans around the globe to compete for survival, even if you’re not a Netflix member,” Netflix said in a blog post published on 27 June 2025..

According to Appfigures’ head of insights, Randy Nelson (courtesy of GamesBeat), Squid Game: Unleashed has the second-most estimated lifetime downloads with nearly 16 million (15.9 million) among Netflix’s 100+ mobile games catalog. GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition holds the top position with an estimated 37.3 million downloads.

Squid Game: Unleashed has seen nearly nine times more downloads than the average Netflix mobile game, Nelson said. Netflix's mobile games average 1.8 million lifetime downloads, while Stranger Things: 1984 has been downloaded 4.4 million times.

Since entering the gaming sector in 2021, Netflix has released titles based on its original IPs, such as Stranger Things 3: The Game and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics, and has seen a 180% surge in game downloads by 2023. The company’s Q4 2023 report highlighted over 13 million new paid subscribers and a net income of $938 million, with gaming identified as a key area for future growth.

As for the TV series itself, Squid Game Season 3, which debuts June 27, 2025, serves as the final chapter of the Korean dystopian series. Since its 2021 debut, Squid Game has become Netflix’s most-watched show, with Season 1 amassing 265.2 million views and Season 2 achieving 192.6 million views in its premiere week, ranking second among non-English TV series on the platform. The franchise has also spawned reality competitions, live experiences, and a surge in related merchandise.
