New Switch 2 LCD Panel Leak Hints at Hardware Revision

A new Nintendo Switch 2 hardware variant has reportedly surfaced online. It points to an updated LCD panel ahead of broader hardware changes planned for Europe. The newly spotted component features a redesigned display assembly that differs from the launch model.

However, it is not believed to be the long-awaited OLED version.

According to ‪@ninpatentswatch.bsky.social‬ on BlueSky, the panel appeared on a Chinese resale marketplace. It is identified as the Sharp-made LS079T1SX10P. Compared to the launch Switch 2 display, it has different connectors, circuitry, and ribbon cables. This suggests a redesigned assembly rather than a routine production revision.

The account also noted that there is no evidence that Nintendo has fully replaced the original panel. Instead, Nintendo could be sourcing displays from multiple suppliers.

New Switch 2 LCD Panel May Reduce Ghosting

The purpose of the revised display remains unclear. One possibility is that it addresses the ghosting reported by some launch Switch 2 users. Another is that it is linked to Nintendo's upcoming European hardware revision.

The update is intended to comply with the European Union's Batteries Regulation, which requires user-replaceable batteries from Feb 18, 2027.

Nintendo has confirmed it is preparing updated products with model numbers beginning with "BEE." That includes the Switch 2, which carries model number BEE-001. The Joy-Con 2 controllers and Switch 2 Pro Controller also use BEE-series model numbers. They could receive similar revisions if required.

Nintendo Continues to Back its LCD Choice

The reported panel does not indicate an OLED upgrade.

Switch 2 still features a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD with HDR10 and VRR support up to 120Hz. Explaining last year's decision, Nintendo Technology Development Division General Manager, Tetsuya Sasaki, stated that the company chose LCD "after a lot of consideration" because of advances in the technology. He also noted that Switch 2 supports HDR, a feature unavailable on the original Switch OLED.

Nintendo has not announced a revised Switch 2 model. Still, the reported display leak suggests the company is refining its hardware while preparing for future European regulations.
