Highlights

  • Nintendo FY26 net sales jumped 98.6% YoY to ¥2.3T (~$14.6B) following strong Switch 2 demand after launch.
  • Switch 2 sold 19.86M units in FY26, marking Nintendo’s strongest hardware launch period to date.
  • Nintendo will raise Switch 2 prices across the US, Japan, Canada, and Europe amid rising component costs and tariffs.

Nintendo posted record-level growth for the fiscal year (FY) ended on March 31, 2026, with annual net sales surging 98.6% year-over-year (YoY) to ¥2.3 trillion (~$14.6 billion USD). The jump was driven by strong demand for Switch 2 following the console's launch in June 2025.

Operating profit rose 27.5% to ¥360.1B (~$2.2B), while ordinary profit increased 45.6% to ¥542.1B (~$3.4B). The company stated Switch 2 achieved the highest global launch-period sales of any Nintendo hardware platform during its first four months on the market.

The strong performance comes as Nintendo prepares to increase Switch 2 prices across major markets, citing rising component costs and changing economic conditions. Beginning September 1, 2026, the Switch 2 price in the United States will increase from $449.99 to $499.99. European pricing will rise from €469.99 to €499.99, while Canadian pricing will move to CAD$679.99.

Meanwhile, in Japan, the console’s price will rise to ¥59,980 on May 25, 2026.

“In light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook, Nintendo will revise the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP),” the company said.

Switch 2 Sales Drive Nintendo FY26 Growth

Switch 2 hardware sales reached 19.86M units during FY26, while software sales totaled 48.71M units. Mario Kart World led Nintendo’s first-party lineup with 14.7M units sold, including bundled copies. Donkey Kong Bananza sold 4.52M units, while Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, reached 3.94M units.

Nintendo said Pokémon Pokopia helped sustain hardware demand late in the financial year. The company also reported that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sold more than 3.8M copies within two weeks, with 40% of players using Switch 2 hardware.

Digital revenue increased 25% YoY to ¥407.6B (~$2.6B), supported by downloadable software sales and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions.

Nintendo Forecasts Lower Hardware Sales in FY27

Despite the record launch year, Nintendo expects Switch 2 hardware sales to decline 16.9% to 16.5M units in FY27. Software sales, however, are forecast to rise 23.2% to 60M units.

The company said the console launched while many consumers were still actively using the original Switch, making first-year demand unusually high compared to previous Nintendo systems. Nintendo also cited rising memory costs and tariffs, factoring roughly ¥100B (~$638M) in additional expenses into its FY27 forecast.

The results reinforce how rising production costs are reshaping the console business. Sony and Microsoft have also raised hardware prices in recent years as manufacturers face sustained pressure from tariffs, inflation, and semiconductor supply constraints.
