Shift Up Expands Stellar Blade 2 Beyond PlayStation Exclusivity
Shift Up takes full control of Stellar Blade 2 for a wider global launch.
Highlights
- Shift Up will self-publish Stellar Blade 2, ending Sony Interactive Entertainment’s publishing role in the franchise.
- The studio indicated that it is aiming for a wider worldwide release strategy for the sequel.
- Shift Up is also “actively exploring further platform expansion” for the original Stellar Blade following its PS5 and PC success.
Shift Up has confirmed it will publish the next Stellar Blade game itself, ending Sony Interactive Entertainment’s publishing role in the franchise. The move marks a major shift for the action franchise after the first game launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive under Sony in 2024.
The Korean studio disclosed the change during its first quarter (Q1) earnings presentation, stating that development of the next Stellar Blade title is “progressing smoothly.” The game remains on track to meet its targeted quality standards.
The original Stellar Blade launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive in April 2024, then expanded to PC in June 2025.
Shift Up stated the sequel will move to a “first-party service model,” giving the company direct control over publishing and marketing efforts tied to the franchise. According to the studio, the change will help it communicate the identity and appeal of the Stellar Blade universe to players worldwide in a more direct and effective way.
Stellar Blade 2 May Target Simultaneous Global Release
While Shift Up did not officially confirm versions for Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch 2, the company indicated that it wants the sequel to reach “a broad global audience from day one.” The statement suggests the studio may pursue a wider multiplatform launch instead of the delayed platform rollout used for the first game.
Shift Up says it is "actively exploring further platform expansion" for the original Stellar Blade. The title has continued to maintain sales momentum and positive player reception across PS5 and PC, helping establish the franchise as a long-term intellectual property (IP) for Shift Up.
Reports in 2025 claimed a Nintendo Switch 2 port was in development following the game’s Steam performance, though no additional versions have been formally announced.
Shift Up has confirmed that Project Spirits, its next flagship title developed with publisher Level Infinite, is progressing steadily. Additional details about the game are expected to be revealed later this year.
