Sony Launches PlayStation Summer Sale Amid Physical Disc Backlash

Sony will launch its PlayStation Store Summer Sale on July 15, 2026. The promotion will offer discounts of up to 75% across hundreds of PS5, PS4, and PS VR2 games, add-ons, and other digital content. It will run until Aug 12, 2026.

The sale comes as Sony faces criticism over its decision to stop releasing new PlayStation games on physical discs starting in January 2028. Many fans have called on the company to reconsider the move. So far, Sony has shown no indication of changing its plans.

Sony has previewed around 389 products for the promotion. The complete list of deals and individual discounts will be revealed when the sale goes live.

PlayStation Store Summer Sale Includes Major Games

Confirmed titles include Assassin's Creed Shadows, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, God of War Ragnarök, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - Deluxe Edition, Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil Requiem, and Red Dead Redemption 2. Other games include ASTRO BOT, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Cyberpunk 2077, Monster Hunter Wilds, Palworld, Stellar Blade, Split Fiction, Forza Horizon 5, and Gran Turismo 7.

"For a limited time*, save up to 75% across multiple PS5, PS4, PS VR2 games, add-ons and more," PlayStation Store Promotions Delivery Manager, Peter Boda, stated. Sony will refresh the sale at midnight PDT, BST, and JST on July 27. Some existing deals will be replaced by new offers. Certain discounts may also end before the overall promotion concludes at 11:59 pm on Aug 12.

While separate from Sony's physical media decision, the Summer Sale puts its digital strategy in focus amid continued debate over physical games.
