Subnautica 2 Leak Surfaces Before Official Release Time

A playable build of Subnautica 2 surfaced on Reddit on May 12, two days before the survival game's official early access launch. Screenshots and a short gameplay clip showing an early section of the game and PC settings, including visuals of PC menu, were spread across social media via an unknown leaker.

Developer Unknown Worlds confirmed the leak in a statement to IGN. According to the company spokesperson, “these builds are incomplete development versions and do not reflect the content or gameplay experience being prepared for the official release.”

The studio further added that multiplayer support and all future patches will be delivered exclusively through official Subnautica 2 builds on partner platforms. The company also warned players about the safety or stability of unofficial builds, stating “certain features or content may not function as intended.”

However, the leak of one of the most-awaited games of 2026 sparked a social media sensation and quickly drew comparisons with the Forza Horizon 6 leak. While the source of the leak has not been confirmed, outlets like Kotaku have pointed towards the cracking group DenuvOwO as a likely culprit.

What Players Need to Know About the Official Subnautica 2 Launch

Despite the behind-the-scenes turmoil, demand for Subnautica 2 has accelerated in the launch week. The company reported that the Subnautica sequel recently surpassed 5M Steam wishlists, positioning it as one of the platform’s most anticipated upcoming games.

Subnautica 2's early access is scheduled on  May 14, 2026, at 8 am PDT / 11 am EDT / 4 pm BST, with a simultaneous worldwide unlock. The developer and publisher Krafton have positioned it as a multiplatform launch across Steam, Epic Games Store, and on Xbox Series X/S.

Unknown Worlds confirmed that Subnautica 2 will cost $29.99 during early access, with localized pricing for every launch region. Once bought, the players can eventually access future “additions, updates, and hotfixes up to our 1.0 launch and beyond,” without extra payment.
