CD Projekt Red joint CEO, Michał Nowakowski, announced that The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release in a video posted ahead of Gamescom 2026. The studio has not committed to a specific month, quarter, or date, and the game will not be presented at the event.

The video also offered a brief 5-7 second glimpse of gameplay.

The Witcher 4 Targets a 2028 Release

The project was first revealed at The Game Awards in December 2024, with Ciri confirmed as the playable protagonist. CD Projekt Red is developing the game with Unreal Engine 5 (UE5), replacing its proprietary REDengine. Nowakowski described it as the studio's "biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date," and requested fans to "let the team cook."

The Witcher 4 is expected on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.

The Witcher 3 Expansion Arrives Before Ciri's New Saga

Gamescom 2026 will instead put The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past in the spotlight. The expansion is the third for The Witcher 3, following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, and is scheduled for 2027 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Geralt playable again.

The expansion will appear at Gamescom Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, while CD Projekt Red's Cologne booths will operate from Aug 26-30, 2026. The studio has also teased "a surprise or two" across its Gamescom livestreams.

CD Projekt Red's next Witcher releases now have a clear timeline, with Geralt returning in 2027 and Ciri's new story planned for 2028.
