  • Amazon and Crystal Dynamics announce two Tomb Raider games, set to launch over the next two years.
  • One of the games will have a new storyline set in Northern India with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam) release.
  • The franchise will also launch a live-action series starring Sophie Turner.

Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics unveiled the first look at Tomb Raider: Catalyst during The Game Awards. Tomb Raider: Catalyst is a whole new installment in the iconic series, slated to be released in 2027. Meanwhile, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a revised edition of the original 1996 game, will be released in 2026. Both titles rekindle the series' momentum roughly eight years after its last major launch.

Recreating a Tomb Raider Classic

Legacy of Atlantis, created by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Flying Wild Hog, reimagines Lara Croft's first expedition with modern gameplay features. It has high-fidelity images driven by Unreal Engine 5, and the plot follows Lara's journey through rainforests, ancient ruins, and desert tombs in quest of the scattered Scion relic. The title has been announced for a 2026 release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).

A New Era for Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft in 2027

According to Amazon and Crystal Dynamics, Catalyst will take the main character, Lara Croft, on a daring new adventure in Northern India, where ancient forces and rival treasure hunters arise. Gamers as Lara will have to deal with shifting allegiances in the game to protect powerful ancient knowledge. The title will also use Unreal Engine 5 and be released on the same platforms as that of Legacy of Atlantis in 2027.

Alix Wilton Regan, a renowned voice and performance actor, will play Lara Croft in both games. Prior to Tomb Raider, she had earlier voiced for games like Dragon Age: Inquisition, Cyberpunk 2077, and Mass Effect 3.

Crystal Dynamics studio chief Scot Amos told Variety that the two titles are being developed by independent internal teams under Fellowship Entertainment, with shared technology and managerial oversight to ensure series continuity. Talking about Flying Wild Hog's engagement, he explained, they operate "like a parallel Crystal Dynamics team."

With the game remake and the live-action series starring Sophie Turner, Amazon is indicating that the Tomb Raider franchise will be rebuilt over time. These ventures combine 28-year-old nostalgia with contemporary storytelling, attracting both longtime fans and new audiences.
