Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, one of six cancelled Ubisoft games in 2026 restructuring
Ubisoft Six Cancelled Games: Complete List Revealed
Leak reveals full list including two Assassin's Creed mobile games and WWII extraction shooter
Highlights
- Ubisoft cancelled six games in January 2026, confirming only Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake at the time.
- A new leak reveals the other five cancelled titles: Project Ether, Project Pathfinder, Project Crest (a WWII extraction shooter), Assassin's Creed Rebellion, and Assassin's Creed Singularity.
- The cancellations reflect Ubisoft's shift away from risky new IPs toward established franchises like Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six amid rising development costs.
Ubisoft disclosed minimal details when it announced January's restructuring and the cancellation of six games. The company named only one: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, first announced in 2020. A new report identifies the other five cancelled Ubisoft games, including two mobile games and another which was absorbed into a new title.
The Ubisoft cancelled games list forms part of what CEO Yves Guillemot called a "major reset" of operations. Ubisoft's shares dropped nearly 40% following the January announcement, which also included the closure of studios in Stockholm and Halifax and delays to seven other titles.
Guillemot had attributed the decision to cancel games to rising development costs and increased competition in the triple-A market. "The triple-A industry has become persistently more selective and competitive with rising development costs and greater challenges in creating brands," he said in a statement in January.
Ubisoft's Six Cancelled Games: Complete List
The cancelled Ubisoft games are:
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake – Canceled after being first announced in 2020.
Project Ether – A game in development since 2019, believed to be at Ubisoft Halifax. Parts of the project have been absorbed into a new title.
Project Pathfinder – Previously known as Project U.
Project Crest – A World War II extraction shooter.
Assassin's Creed Rebellion – Support ending for the mobile title.
Assassin's Creed Singularity – A mobile game in development.
The cancellations remove two Assassin's Creed mobile projects from Ubisoft's pipeline. The company has shifted focus to mainline entries in the franchise, which remains central to its revenue strategy.
Project Crest's cancellation is notable given the extraction shooter genre's growth. ARC Raiders drew over 10 million players in its first month, establishing a dominant position in the category. Ubisoft may have concluded it couldn't compete effectively in the space.
The decision to scrap the Sands of Time remake surprised fans, particularly as the industry has seen strong performance from remakes including Super Mario Galaxy, Oblivion and Metal Gear Solid 3 in 2025. The original game sold millions of copies in 2003.
Insider Gaming's report also said the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake has been pushed beyond the current fiscal year, with an April 2026 reveal now planned. No release window was provided.
Ubisoft has not confirmed the identities of the five cancelled projects beyond the Prince of Persia remake.
