  • Project cancellations led the studio to refocus on Growtopia.
  • The layoffs follow closure of Ubisoft Halifax.

Ubisoft has laid off 29 employees at its Abu Dhabi studio as part of continued global restructuring, the company confirmed. The redundancies were carried out in November 2025, shortly before the publisher finalized the closure of Ubisoft Halifax and implemented wider cost-cutting measures across its international operations.

The layoffs were first indicated through LinkedIn posts from affected employees and later confirmed by Ubisoft in a statement to Game Developer. According to the company, several projects at the Abu Dhabi mobile studio were discontinued to allow teams to focus on Growtopia

“In November, Ubisoft made the difficult decision to restructure its Abu Dhabi mobile studio, discontinuing some projects in order to focus on Growtopia,” a company spokesperson said, adding that support is being provided to the impacted team members during the transition.

Ubisoft Abu Dhabi Layoffs Tied to Broader Global Cuts

Multiple employees based in Abu Dhabi publicly confirmed their departures in December 2025, suggesting the layoffs were implemented quietly. Zohaib Shafiq, a former game support specialist, said his role ended after four and a half years following recent restructuring.

Another post from Daniel Kovacs, a concept artist who spent three and a half years at the studio, reflected on the experience after being affected by the cuts. Additional LinkedIn posts from staff shared similar timelines and sentiments.

Ubisoft Abu Dhabi was established in 2011 and operates as a regional development hub. The studio has employed more than 60 people and contributed to titles such as CSI: Hidden Crimes and Growtopia.

In the past year, the publisher laid off around 200 employees across Europe, closed its Leamington studio, made cuts in Düsseldorf, Stockholm, and Reflections, and confirmed the closure of Ubisoft Halifax, highlighting the scale of its ongoing restructuring.
